PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

Our plant has two roles in Operations that an external candidate can be hired into.

 

The Wet End Operator is responsible for entering the raw materials of glass into the machine by use of the hopper system into the white water chests. Responsibilities include testing adding chemicals into to the water when needed, helping start up and shut down the line when appropriate, and completing all cleaning of their area. This role is also responsible for moving material with pallet jacks, testing viscosity and Ph, and completing white water quality checks.

 

The Slitter Operator (or Mat Slitter Packer) works in our rework area, operating the slitter machines and our core cutter. This role processes block stock into shippable product by salvaging good quality material from rolls containing visual quality defects. Responsibilities include examining product for visual imperfections, reporting on daily progress made against the schedule, tracking work in the computer, aiding the production lines when there is a need for re-wrapping and/or re-labeling material, and will cross-train to support production in needed areas.

 

Job Type: Full-time

Plant Environment: The OC Aiken facility is not climate controlled. With industrial ovens as part of our process, the manufacturing floor temperature is susceptible to the heat or cold of the outdoors. The facility is also unionized.

Shift Schedule: 12 hour shifts, three or four scheduled shifts a week, rotating between day shift (8a-8p) and night shift (8p-8a) every two weeks

Starting Pay: $21.15/hour paid weekly

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Primary Process Responsibilities
    • Read, understand, and follow all Standard Work Procedures
    • Follow all OPL’s and cleaning and inspection standards
    • Operate industrial equipment
    • Monitors and adjusts machine and equipment settings
    • Participate in start-up, product change, trial activities, outages, and shut-down activities on the lines
    • Perform routine checks as identified on checklists
    • Maintain a clean area and implement the 5S structure that has been rolled out in the area
  • Primary Safety Responsibilities
    • Follow all safety rules and procedures for the plant
    • Follow all lockout procedures
    • Follow all safety signs and documentation
    • Follow all safety rules and procedures concerning the handling of all chemicals within the area of their responsibility
    • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Work as a Team Player
    • Minimizes process downtime
    • Participates on continuous improvement work groups, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodology and activities
    • Supports trials
    • Uses general tools (not requiring specialized training), as needed, to perform the job
    • Helps identify process problems and seeks solutions
    • Actively monitors equipment and processes
    • Troubleshoots the equipment when necessary

  • Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of job as directed by management.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Must possess strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must have the ability to multi-task
  • Must have strong internal and external customer service skills
  • Must work well in team environment
  • Must have the ability to do basic mathematical calculations
  • Class III pallet jack certification

 

 

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES:

    • Learn to use AWAQS data entry system and accurately enter data
    • Use system to identify hazards and abnormalities

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

There are some essential physical requirements specific to our work environment, including being able to:

  • Stand on concrete for 10 - 12 hours straight
  • Climb and descend stairs/ladder as needed for the role
  • Do repetitive movements (hand, arm, leg; bending and twisting at the waist; bending at the knee; squatting; lift, push and pull 40-pounds)
  • Withstand exposure to temperature extremes; sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable
  • Handle, control and feel raw materials and finished goods
  • Able to execute repetitive movements
