PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

At our Aiken Non-Wovens’ facility, our goal is to strive to zero losses.  Reporting to the Maintenance & Reliability Leader, this position will lead 24/7/365 maintenance execution to ensure safe, effective, efficient, continuous plant operation through proactive maintenance and reliability of the facility and equipment. The Maintenance Supervisor supports design and process changes, installations, troubleshooting, completing repairs and providing data to improve maintenance and reliability processes. They also supervise the hourly Maintenance Chief and Multi-craft technicians to minimize scheduled and unscheduled downtimes. Excellent interpersonal skills, leadership, driving change and achieving results are essential.

Aiken is the largest facility in Owens Corning’s North America Nonwoven’s Composites business.

Span of Control:  Direct reports include Maintenance Chief and Multi-craft technicians

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Live the Owens Corning Safety Stand- Living Safely

 

  • Ensures a safe and environmentally compliant workplace where safety is a priority.
  • Sustainability and Environmental Compliance / Stewardship
  • Leads and support safety initiatives and processes to drive to zero incidents
  • Educate team members on the safe operations of new processes, modifications or management of change (MOC) processes
  • Ensure maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Drives safety practices in maintenance – JHA/ Pre-task safety planning, LTT, guarding, etc
  • Trains and develops employees to safely perform their jobs

 

Execution of Plant Maintenance Strategy

 

  • Drive a zero Environmental Health & Safety incident culture, support and participate in incident investigations to determine root cause, identify preventive actions, and correct unsafe conditions and acts immediately.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels and departments of the plant.
  • Direct, motivate, and lean a team of multi-craft technicians to complete maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Promote precision maintenance technics and coach techs as needed in proper maintenance practices to prevent needed rework.
  • Conduct routine audits of EHS adherence, completeness, work order accuracy, time allotment, housekeeping, etc.
  • Ensure equipment troubleshooting is done with a logical systematic approach to correctly identify and resolve issues, escalating to management when necessary, and recommending solutions. 
  • Work with Maintenance Planners and Reliability Engineers to develop weekly schedules for 100% available maintenance time, and complete/close WO’s.
  • Utilize Reliability Engineers and others to solve problems to root cause, implement actions that prevent reoccurrence, improve operations, etc.
  • Develop, schedule, and provide training for the maintenance technicians to ensure specialty knowledge is at least two deep, and adhere to regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize the Maintenance Escalation chain to minimize response times.
  • Enter time in the payroll system as required, and manage overtime, vacations and shift relief.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • 2-year technical degree; 4-year degree preferred (EE, EET, ME, or MET); a combination of education and maintenance supervisory experience will be considered.
  • CMRP certified preferred
  • 5 years industrial maintenance experience
  • Industrial utility and facility system knowledge
  • People leadership

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE

 

  • Working experience and application of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)
  • Fiberglass mat or paper manufacturing experience
  • Contractor management to perform project and maintenance activities
  • Work and personnel scheduling and planning; preferably in a Union environment
  • Strong electrical, PLC and controls
  • Very high mechanical aptitude, including pneumatics, hydraulics, and power trains
  • Working in a CMMS environment; SAP preferred Experience leading a Unionized workforce
