About the position
Are you passionate about shaping the future of flat roofing solutions across Europe?
At Owens Corning, we are looking for a Technical Manager Roofing Europe who will play a pivotal role in defining and growing our Roofing System Components portfolio. This is a highly visible position at the intersection of technology, innovation, commercial strategy and customer engagement. You will own the technical product-management interface for a portfolio of flat roofing systems that includes vapor barriers, fire barriers, protection layers, separation fleeces, underlays, geotextiles and related accessories. Working closely with Sales, Strategic Marketing, Product Management, R&D, Supply Chain, customers, suppliers and external technical organizations, you will help shape the solutions that drive customer success and support sustainable growth across Europe.
This is more than a technical role. It is an opportunity to influence portfolio strategy, guide product development, strengthen market positioning and become a trusted adviser to customers, architects, engineers, consultants and industry partners. If you enjoy combining technical expertise with commercial impact and strategic thinking, this role offers a unique platform to make a meaningful difference.
What does success look like?
Success in this role means becoming the recognized technical leader for our Roofing System Components portfolio. You will ensure our products remain competitive, compliant and aligned with evolving customer needs, application requirements and market trends. You will identify portfolio opportunities, evaluate new products and technologies, support product improvements and help define the future direction of the portfolio. At the same time, you will enable customers and colleagues to make the right product choices by providing practical application expertise, technical guidance and industry-leading support. As a key partner to Sales and Product Management, you will contribute to successful product launches, customer qualification programs, technical training initiatives and growth opportunities across Europe. Your expertise will help transform market insights into innovative solutions, stronger customer relationships and sustainable business growth.
The ideal candidate combines strong roofing and building envelope expertise with product ownership, strategic thinking and a passion for solving customer challenges. You are equally comfortable discussing technical specifications on a construction site, evaluating new portfolio opportunities with business leaders, and influencing future product strategy through data, insights and market intelligence.
Product, Portfolio & Technical Expertise
- Own the technical interface. Lead technical product management for barrier sheets, vapor barriers, protection layers, separation fleeces, underlays, geotextiles and related roofing and building-envelope accessories.
- Guide application and installation. Support specification, project discussions, installation preparation, job-site execution and after-sales follow-up. Advise customers, contractors and installers on product selection, system build-ups, application details and practical issue resolution.
- Strengthen the portfolio. Identify product gaps, gather market feedback, evaluate new products and contribute to upgrades, replacements and rationalization decisions.
- Protect quality and compliance. Support technical claim investigations and corrective or preventive actions. Keep product claims and guidance aligned with roofing regulations, standards, construction guidelines and market requirements.
- Build trusted technical content. Develop and improve installation guidelines, application recommendations, technical manuals and best-practice documents.
- Engage the technical community. Maintain active relationships with testing institutes, certification bodies and technical organizations to understand approvals, fire requirements, sustainability expectations and market-access needs.
- Build expertise and customer value. Present roofing systems to professional audiences, strengthen technical capability across the business and provide specialist guidance on nonwoven-based products and applications.
Customer, Sales & Supplier Collaboration
- Partner with customers and Sales. Join strategic visits, specifications and project discussions with architects, engineers, consultants, distributors, contractors and installers.
- Own portfolio documentation. Manage product data sheets, installation guidance, Declarations of Performance, certificates, approvals, fire and sustainability information, and market guidelines for traded products.
- Enable the organization. Develop and deliver technical training, seminars and product presentations for internal and external audiences.
- Lead the supplier interface. Act as the main technical contact, evaluating product performance, documentation quality, compliance readiness, trial results and portfolio suitability.
- Manage trials and qualification. Partner with Operations and S&T to plan, execute and document product trials. Coordinate Purchasing, Quality, Marketing and Sales from supplier qualification through customer qualification and Management of Change.
- Create measurable value and apply technical expertise to help customers reduce cost, improve performance or add value to their products and systems.
Portfolio Strategy, Market Intelligence & Growth Support
- Shape portfolio priorities. Use customer feedback, competitor intelligence, industry developments and regulatory trends to guide the regional portfolio and growth strategy.
- Strengthen positioning. Work with Product Management, Strategic Marketing and Account Managers to define value propositions, commercial arguments, launch support and training needs.
- Develop new opportunities. Assess unmet needs, technical fit and feasibility, ensuring opportunities connect clearly to the Roofing System Components roadmap.
- Build the technical pipeline. Screen ideas, validate customer interest and convert viable opportunities into technical proposals, trial plans, qualification steps and follow-up actions with Key Account Managers and cross-functional teams.
- Translate complexity into action. Turn regulations, construction guidance, industry practices, technical evaluation and competitive benchmarking into practical guidance and go-to-market support.
Business Requirements
- Master’s degree in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Physics, Architecture, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. A relevant PhD is an advantage.
- 5+ years’ experience in roofing, waterproofing, insulation, building envelope, construction materials, technical product management or related technical field.
