For our Non Wovens Business in Europe, we are looking for an Application Engineer who will be partnering closely with our customers, our Key Account Managers, Strategic Marketing, S&T, supply chain, and operations to enable the creation and delivery of effective solutions that generate value to our customers. You will play a pivotal role in the success of our business through the execution of our customer account strategies aligned with the company’s short-, medium-, and long-term objectives.

 

What does success look like?

The Application Engineer serves as the primary technical expert for customers, collaborating closely with peers and various functions within the OC matrix. This role is accountable for providing comprehensive technical support to customers, encompassing all stages from product development through problem resolution, working in partnership with both customers and the OC team.

 

The Application Engineer is expected to develop a thorough understanding of customer needs and prevailing market trends, enabling the creation and delivery of effective solutions that deliver value to customers while ensuring mutual benefit for Owens Corning.

Knowing Our Customers

  • Gains comprehensive understanding of the relevant nonwoven market application and customers’ manufacturing processes, enabling effective documentation of product needs and mid-term capability development.
  • Manages technical relationships with customer contacts, creating a strong network within both organizations built on integrity, trust, and respect.
  • Maintains regular contact with key decision-makers (technical, operations, quality) at customer sites and within OC, ensuring alignment and adapting actions as needed.
  • Captures, consolidates and ensures the technical voice of the customer/market is integrated into our commercial, innovation and operations work translating into commercial or operations advantage
  • Provides technical perspective on customers in preparation of high-quality key account negotiation planning/playbooks throughout the year to drive successful negotiations

 

Supporting our customers

  • Leads cross functional teams to troubleshoot customer technical problems
  • Provides technical expertise to help our customers take cost out or add value to their product.
  • Partners with Operations and S&T resources to develop and execute product trials in implementing product launches according to product roadmaps
  • Develops strong understanding of customer Management of Change systems to facilitate efficient product qualification processes

 

Executing & leveraging selling & products Strategies

  • Develops a comprehensive industry overview from an application technical perspective, evaluating pros and cons, production processes, and identifying gaps and opportunities to help the commercial team capture value and position products effectively.
  • Supports regional growth strategy by gathering data (customer, competitor, economic, industry) to understand market needs.
  • Collaborates with Product Management and Account Managers to analyze customer data, ensuring our solutions remain competitive and provide new insights.
  • Advises regional commercial teams on account strategies and regularly engages with account managers, product engineers, and segment leaders.
  • Conducts regular cross-functional reviews with business segment leaders to assess product performance.
  • Coordinates technical data sheets for the product portfolio and maintains operational relationships to ensure compliance with customer requirements.

 

To succeed in this role, you need:

Qualification

  • MS degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Polymer Science/Engineering. PhD in similar field is an advantage
  • 5+ years’ experience in Nonwovens, Pulp and Paper, Building Construction Materials, or similar

 

Experience:

  • Several years industry experience preferably in Nonwovens, Pulp and Paper, Building Construction Materials, or similar.  Solid background in ceiling, insulation, or roofing applications is considered a strong advantage
  • Experience in operating in a multi-cultural matrix environment
  • Fluent in English is a must. Dutch & German language skills are considered an advantage;
