SUMMARY

The purpose of the Lift Truck Operator is to ensure all finished material is labeled, scanned, and placed in it’s proper location for storage, or on a flatbed for delivery to customers, by using a warehouse management system. The LTO is also responsible for loading or unloading all freight in compliance with D.O.T., and plant safety and operating procedures accurately and efficiently.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take personal ownership to work safely each and everyday and hold other team members to the same high standards of safety.
  • Inspect and operate lift truck in a safe, productive manner in accordance with all OC procedures.
  • Replace LP tanks as needed following all safety procedures.
  • Load and unload finished products and raw materials following proper operating and safety procedures.
  • Follow all set guidelines and procedures in regarding to locking out and loading of trucks.
  • Notify your Shift Leader immediately of any accident, near miss or on-the-job injury when it occurs no matter how insignificant it may seem.
  • Maintain routine housekeeping in all shipping areas, cleaning all debris/garbage, maintaining clear driving pathways, keeping products in bins, and daily cleaning inside of forklift (presentable to others).
  • Knowledge of warehouse storage areas and location of all products to include shingles and components through the warehouse management system (WMS).
  • Operate WMS scanning technology to ensure 100% accurate customer orders, guide proper First In First Out (FIFO) loading, and also improve the organization and accuracy of our inventory.
  • If operating outside of the scanning technology, LTO should record all handling units on truck and have a blind verification performed.
  • Perform routine cycle counts using the warehouse management system and investigate differences.
  • Complete all required paperwork and ensure timely delivery in the shipping office.
  • Unload raw materials (mat, wrappers, pallets, tape, etc) into specified storage areas.
  • Ensure the gate is closed and locked and warehouse area secure at the end of each shift.
  • Avoid damaging material leading to scrap or seconds by rushing, taking shortcuts, overhandling material, etc.
  • Notify MMS/Warehouse Leader of equipment problems requiring work orders, assist in the generation of work orders to fix, and tag out the equipment.
  • Follow up on all work orders you initiate.
  • Comply with all plant rules.
  • Regular Attendance on site and ability to rotate to varying shifts.
  • All other duties as assigned or needed by MMS/Warehouse Leader.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The employee should have the following abilities:

     

  • Verifiable and sustained authorization to work in the United States
  • Able to safely operate a forklift and maintain site certification to operate powered industrial vehicle
  • Ability to work collaboratively with truck drivers in a positive and courteous manner
  • Good communication skills

·     Accountability and ownership for actions

·     Able to think under pressure and make quick decisions

·     Ability to work well in a team or alone

·     Able to communicate in English

·     Ability to read a tape measure and do basic math

      

 

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

The employee must be able to:

 

·    Must be able to operate a computer or other keyboard instrument

·     Operate warehouse management system and scanning equipment

·     Experience with SAP, Microsoft word and pull paperwork for drivers

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

 

·    High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

 

·     Ability to stand or sit for 8 - 12 hours straight

·     Able to climb onto and off of a forklift for up to 12 hours continuously

·     Lift and push and pull 40lbs. More than 50 times per day

·     Able to do repetitive hand, arm, leg movements for up to 12 hours

·     Must be able to squat, bend at the waist and knees freely

·     Exposure to temperature extremes

·     Exposure to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable

·     Bending and twisting

·     Repetitive movements
