SUMMARY

 

The Material Handler works as a team member and performs any duty related to the load, unload and transport of goods and in-process products within the plant area. The position provides lift truck support throughout the plant as directed and performs general housekeeping. The Material Handler is trained and required to assist others when needed.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Participates in the safety and good housekeeping programs as established within the plant.
  • Responsible for knowledge and ability to perform work for plant blending operations.
  • Work closely with operators and maintenance in troubleshooting process problems.
  • Tank Gauging knowledge and ability.
  • Know and follow all plant environmental control policies and procedures.
  • Meet team expectation such as reliability, teamwork, and process improvement.  Maintain and improve productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Safely operate all associated equipment.
  • Knowledgeable of all Fire Watch duties and the ability to perform as Fire Watch.
  • Load/Unload Asphalt Trucks and Unload Rail Cars at all loading racks and unloading areas in the plant.
  • Responsible for replacing plant chart recorder charts.
  • Responsible for knowledge of asphalt tank to tank transfers
  • Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by the supervisors/management.

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

 

The employee must be able to:

 

  • Operate a computer and exhibit basic computer skills
  • Accomplish required online training routinely
  • Chart Recorder chart replacement procedure.

 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

The employee should have the following:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency, within first year of employment
  • Operations Knowledge in all the following areas (not all inclusive):  Truck Loading/Unloading, Railcar Unloading.

 

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

The employee should possess the ability to:

 

  • Ability to work for up to 12 hours in extreme hold/cold manufacturing environment
  • Walk/Stand on concrete floors continuously for up to 12 hours
  • Routinely ascend and descend stairs and ladders as work area requires
  • Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – steel toed shoes, ear plugs, eye protection, hard hat, gloves (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) as necessary for task.
  • Exposure to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable
  • Bending or twisting
  • Ability to move up to 40 lbs without assistance
  • Handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls
