SUMMARY
The primary objective of the Material Handler position is to safely and efficiently handle, transfer, load, unload, and sample asphalt and related materials in support of continuous asphalt plant operations. This role requires attention to detail, effective communication with operators and drivers, and the ability to troubleshoot minor process issues. This role ensures compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational standards while protecting employees, equipment, and Owens Corning assets.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Material Handling Operations
•    Performs loading and unloading of asphalt materials via railcars and trucks, including proper hookup, transfer, and disconnect procedures.
•    Handles specialty materials such as Polyphosphoric Acid (PPA) in accordance with safety and environmental guidelines.
•    Collects material samples from railcars and trucks as required to support quality and operational needs.
•    Supports flatbed and van container loading and unloading activities as assigned
•    Tank Gauging knowledge and ability
•    Responsible for replacing plant chart recorder charts.
•    Must be able to perform transactional activities in SAP related to shipments & deliveries

Equipment, Housekeeping & TPM
•    Operates Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIVs) as required and qualified.
•    Monitors equipment and material flow, communicating abnormalities or concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
•    Performs cleanup and housekeeping duties at workstations, and material handling areas.
•    Participates in TPM initiatives, 5S activities, safety programs, and focused improvement events.
•    Utilizes continuous improvement tools to support zero injuries, zero defects, and zero losses.

Safety & Compliance
•    Operates under the Owens Corning Safety premise “Safer Together” and meets all safety requirements; safety is a condition of employment.
•    Takes personal ownership to work safely every day and holds other team members to the same high standards.
•    Properly utilizes required PPE and follows all Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and standard work instructions.
•    Immediately notifies supervision of any accident, near miss, or on the job injury, regardless of severity.

•    Knowledge of all Fire Watch duties and the ability to perform as Fire Watch
•    Complies with all plant rules, safety policies, DOT requirements, and environmental regulations.

Team & Development
•    Works collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams.
•    Identifies and participates in learning opportunities to develop job knowledge and skill proficiency.
•    Maintains effective communication to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.


QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
•    Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures.
•    Strong safety awareness and commitment to safe work practices.
•    Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
•    Willingness to work in an industrial manufacturing and tank yard environment.
Preferred:
•    Experience in an asphalt, chemical, or industrial manufacturing environment.
•    Experience with material transfers, sampling, and PIV operation.
•    Knowledge of DOT, environmental, and hazardous material handling requirements.

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES


The employee must be able to:

•    Perform basic computer skills i.e. Microsoft office, excel. And word
•    Log onto a computer and navigate via keyboard to access paycheck/benefits enrollment information and accomplish required online training routinely
•    Maintain plant recorder charts


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
•    High School Diploma or GED equivalency

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee should possess the ability to:
•    Ability to lift-up to 40 lbs. without assistance
•    Work for up to 12 hours in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
•    Work in dusty, dirty, hot, wet conditions, or at elevated heights. 
•    Walk/stand on concrete floors continuously for up to 12 hours
•    Routinely ascend and descend stairs and ladders as work area requires
•    Repetitive hand, arm, & leg movements
•    Must be able to squat and bend at the waist and knees freely
•    Be exposed to hazards such as hot equipment, product, and fumes. He/she may work in awkward a position which exposes them to additional hazards.
•    Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – steel toed shoes, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask), gloves, bump cap/hard hat as necessary for task
