WHAT YOUR DAY IN THIS ROLE MIGHT INVOLVE AT OC ATLANTA ROOFING PLANT
The Raw Materials Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day leadership and support to the Roofing plant by executing on the coordination of raw materials and parts into the plant. The role is critical to ensure that the materials needed to produce products are available, on time, and ready to use. This role largely acts independently but works closely with the production, maintenance, and finance departments.
What Your Day-to-Day May Involve
Safety & Environmental Leadership
- Follow and actively support all Owens Corning safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain 100% safety engagement and promote a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
- Ensure Environmental Compliance with proper housekeeping of Sand/Filler Silos and Granule accumulation area.
Raw Materials & Inventory Coordination
- Take a strategic approach to inventory management
- Maintain accurate raw material inventories by executing raw material cycle counts when requested, and at regular daily intervals.
- Coordinate and order inbound raw materials, including railcars and transloaded materials, to support production requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels, manage reorder points, and assist with excess and obsolete material reviews.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, perform root cause analysis, and support corrective actions.
- Ensure all inbound deliveries are properly inspected and accurately received in SAP.
- Communicate inventory levels, usage trends, and delivery risks to Operations and plant leadership.
- Support updates to Bills of Materials (BOMs) in coordination with the Plant Controller and Quality.
- Ensure Friday inventory levels are sufficient to get production through weekend
- Be reachable outside of normal working hours to address potential inventory needs
Operational Support & Reporting
- Prepare inventory reports related to usage, accuracy, shortages, and variances; investigate changes and explain as needed.
- Assist with internal and external audits to ensure inventory accuracy and compliance.
- Partner cross-functionally to resolve receiving, storage, and material flow challenges.
People & Process Support (as assigned)
- Attend Daily Management Systems (DMS) meetings to communicate raw material usage and availability
- Provide day-to-day coordination and guidance to raw material unloaders or warehouse personnel.
- Support training, performance expectations, and engagement of assigned hourly employees.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, TPM, and inventory optimization efforts.
What Makes a Successful Owens Corning Team Member
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
- 2–3+ years of experience in inventory control, raw materials coordination, warehouse, or manufacturing operations.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Proactive problem-solving skills
- Skilled in Root-Cause Analysis
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- SAP and/or Warehouse Management System (WMS) experience.
- Cycle count and physical inventory experience.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain.
- Basic understanding of SOX requirements and inventory accounting principles.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities, and escalate issues in a timely manner
- Demonstrated ability to think under pressure, make quick decisions, and act as a decision maker.
- Ability to work with third party vendors on behalf of Company’s interest
- Desire to learn and an eagerness to develop oneself.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the manufacturing facility for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work environment includes exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
