SUMMARY

The Entry Level Mechanic performs inspections and conducts preventive maintenance on plant equipment. They assist in repairs of all plant machinery and support systems. Must operate and maintain a wide variety of tools and equipment including power and hand tools, man lifts, forklifts, hoists, oil removal equipment, and other support equipment as required.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Plant and Environmental Safety / TPM

  • Lives the Owens Corning Safety Standard “Safer Together” and meets all safety requirements. Safety is a condition of employment.
  • Participates in the safety, quality, Autonomous Maintenance (AM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and housekeeping programs as established within the plant; including but not limited to Focused Improvement Events, Safety Committee, Training, etc.

 

Job Duties:

  • Energy Control Procedures (ECP's) and Lock Tag Try (LTT) system.  Respect for the potential hazards within the manufacturing operation.  Training and regular auditing of the process.
  • Assists in repairs and maintenance of all plant equipment.
  • Complies with good housekeeping practices on the job and ensures work areas are clean and picked up after each job completion.
  • Works as instructed with outside contractors.
  • Troubleshooting basics, how to analyze a problem and step to the root cause.  Help reduce cycle time to problem resolution and eliminates the “replace and see what happens method”.
  • Assists in removal and installation of new or repaired equipment.
  • Adds oil or grease to all equipment as needed.
  • Follows the Preventative Maintenance Procedures and completes checklists.
  • Maintains plant equipment and assists in determining appropriate methods to accomplish these tasks.
  • Read, understand, and analyze blueprints and other technical data references.
  • Inspects plant equipment to identify potential problems prior to breakdown occurrences.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to changing priorities as business needs dictate.
  • All other duties as assigned or needed.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The employee should hold the following skills and abilities:

  • Forklift operation, licensed – will provide certification.
  • Preferably one year in a related maintenance trade or occupation that involved electrical, hydraulic machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of equipment, maintenance theory, and demonstrate basic practical ability in machinery maintenance practices.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot 
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task while having high attention to detail 
  • Demonstrates a positive work ethic 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and report safety issues.  
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team atmosphere with minimal direct supervision  
  • Basic mathematics skills 
  • Able to effectively communicate (read, write, speak, understand) English 
  • Able to demonstrate trouble-shooting techniques and have a basic understanding of blueprints and be familiar with industrial safety practices. 

 

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrate basic computer skills such as Microsoft Outlook, IVC and SAP. Basic data entry. 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • Manufacturing or process related experience required

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must:
    • Be at least 18 years old.
    • Remain drug free.
    • Have work schedule flexibility.
    • Effectively and efficiently perform up to 12-hour shifts in an industrial manufacturing environment:
      • Extreme temperature variation.
      • Sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable (hearing protection is provided).
      • Prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and/or using full upper / lower body movement for process.
      • Ink / dust / dirt / fumes.
      • Wearing applicable / mandatory  PPE.
      • Climb / descend stairs / ladder, and / or work from heights as needed.
      • Repetitively and freely:
          • Perform movements of body, hand, arm, leg.
          • Bend, twist, squat, walk, sit, stand; to include waist, back and knee motion.
          • Lift, push and pull 40lbs.
