Job Description:
Owens Corning Nonwovens GmbH is part of Owens Corning’s Europe Composites Non Woven Business. The plant is running several production lines and handles trading goods.
This position is located in Brüggen, Germany.
The Automations and Electrical Controls Engineer has responsibility for overall Automations and Electrical Maintenance Operations at the Brüggen manufacturing facility. They are responsible for all aspects of the electrical maintenance processes, and uses engineering skills to drive improvements in safety, productivity, and quality, while reducing costs and assuring environmental compliance.
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Lead
Main responsibilities:
Lead Safety for an injury free work environment
- Educates team members on safe maintenance work processes and procedures
- Adheres to, and continuously improves, all Plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards
- Ensures a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and builds a culture where safety is a first priority
- Effectively communicates Owens Corning’s stand of safety with external parties and ensures that they work according to our safety standards
- Good knowledge of NEC NFPA 70 and 70E, including Arc Flash
Automation & Controls
- Design, implement, and optimize automation solutions (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, S7, WIN CC, AWAQS)
- Provide technical support and continuous improvement for automation systems
- Specify, install, and validate instrumentation and control systems
- Troubleshoot automation and electrical systems; implement sustainable solutions
- Lead and support CAPEX automation projects
- Apply mechatronic solutions for material and product handling
- Maintain accurate documentation and version control for control systems
Maintenance & Operations Support
- Support troubleshooting and technology transfer for systems and equipment
- Train technicians and operators on new technologies (e.g., HMI, PLCs)
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Conduct root cause analysis and create One Point Lessons (OPLs)
Project & Interface Management
- Participate in project planning to identify automation opportunities
- Use digital tools to monitor performance (e.g., OEE, cycle time)
- Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors
- Apply project management skills to ensure successful implementation
Job Requirements :
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- Five years of automation and control engineering experience in a Plant, or related experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong safety awareness, commitment and safety leadership
- Experience working with 480 V
- Experience leading projects (Capital, Focused Improvement)
- Experience with Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC’s, Siemens Win CC & TIA PORTAL
- User experience with SAP, maintenance tools, database systems and MS Office
- Experience in TPM and Lean Manufacturing (Six Sigma) is a plus
- Industrial automation, process control, project management, calibration, instrumentation, Profi-Net and Ethernet, Multi-Drive System, protective systems and computer infrastructure knowledge
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems, perform failure analysis, and conduct complex system tests
- Languages: German (mother tongue level) and English (business fluent). French is a plus.
- This role is onsite in Brüggen - be responsive to the needs of the plant (will be on call)
