Enviromental/Health/Safety Lead (m/f/x)

The Environmental & Safety Leader leads all aspects of Environmental, Health and Safety at the plant level and is a point of guidance and support for the site. The EHS Leader is also responsible for leading the TPM/EHS Pillar.
Successful candidate in this role is a highly motivated self-starter that shows experience in gap analysis, strategic project development, and action plan implementation in order to achieve a zero-injury and NOV (Notice Of Violation) environment.
In addition to strategic gap reduction, the successful candidate must demonstrate a strong background in team engagement. The ideal candidate will be able to provide specific examples of aligning and engaging leadership teams, building engagement among both leaders and primary team members, and creating a talent network with a strong focus on safety and sustainability.
Reports to: Site Leader, with dotted line report to Regional EHS Leader. This position serves as a member of the Plant leadership team.
This position is located in Brüggen, Germany with a limited amount of international travel (10 to 15%).
Main responsibilities:
1. Live the Safety Stand; adhere to the safety, health and environmental responsibilities
‐ Transform plant safety and environmental performance to world-class levels that align with division and Owens Corning corporate goals
‐ Build and foster a safety culture among all plant employees
‐ Reduce the plant’s environmental foot print in the community
‐ Support and help build a culture of wellness
2. Develop skills and grow capabilities in the plant
‐ Coach, mentor, and provide guidance to ensure that all team members including the plant leadership team clearly understand the site EHS objectives and are accountable for working towards those objectives
‐ Assess effectiveness of plant leadership from an EHS perspective and provide developmental guidance as required
‐ Develop and implement training programs in a coordinated manner with appropriate plant personnel
‐ Demonstrate and promote the subject matter contained within the Excellence in Safety Leadership model
‐ Continually reinforce the Company’s stand on safety and environmental stewardship
‐ Develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of all critical EH&S processes, programs, and procedures
‐ Review, set and accomplished critical metrics regularly to ensure continuous improvement in the processes that lead to an engaged EHS culture on the floor
‐ Recognize employee accomplishments and contributions
3. Oversee compliance with governmental regulations and corporate programs
‐ Ensure regulatory compliance of all environmental permits and processes
‐ Foster positive relationships with governmental agencies and work as a partner to improve the plant
‐ Create, maintain, and oversee the compliance calendar for all regulatory requirements
‐ Effectively address enforcement actions from local, national or regional agencies
‐ Ensure adherence to corporate policies and programs
‐ Implement, develop, and maintain an Environmental Management System (EMS)
‐ Perform gap analysis and implement gap reduction plans for EMS systems
‐ Provide expert technical support in identifying, and resolving critical regulatory issues
‐ Actively champion the sustainability and the collection of data and coordinate with corporate resources to ensure standardized reporting across the company
4. Operational Sustainability Leadership
‐ Provide Site leadership for operational sustainability initiatives around reducing the company’s footprint in energy consumption, waste, water, air and greenhouse gas emissions
‐ Work with the Operational Sustainability team on reporting
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
‐ Master Degree in EHS (industrial hygiene, safety at work, ergonomics) or equivalent such as a relevant high grade professional qualification
‐ “Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit” professional certification is a must
EXPERIENCE:
‐ 3-5 years of experience in an industrial environment with responsibilities for safety and environmental functions
‐ Experience with Management systems (ISO, EMS)
‐ Experience effectively engaging employees & creating a strong Safety culture
‐ Experience developing long term risk reduction plans, short term mitigation techniques and executing action plans
‐ Experience working with regulatory agencies
‐ Experience in a multinational company and matrix environment would be an advantage
