Automation Line Operator

Purpose:
Produce a product from a raw state to a customized finish product. Correct set up of raw materials, guiding sills through a roller machine to an automated capper and saw section.
Job Duties:
- Develop and maintain a complete understanding of all material types, lengths and colors, as well as all nosing color and lengths.
- Rotate into the various positions on the line, such as material handling, off load, and feeding, as well as rotating to other areas during a shift.
- Identify and eliminate issues causing downtime
- Become familiar with all standard work rules for the work cell
- Show a complete understanding of finished quality steps including: sill length, cap height, squareness, options, and appearance
- Report any scrap parts and salvage any acceptable parts
- Be familiar with 5S procedures for keeping equipment and tools in proper locations to keep area organized
- Display working knowledge of the sill options area and/or DET area to serve as a back-up
- Know how to properly check all materials for quality (raw parts), using calipers when necessary
- Know how to properly use computer labeling and scanning functions including RF scanners to make product labels and report production on schedule.
- Know how to run each position on the line
- Demonstrate a complete knowledge of all part number configurations on finished product
- Possess ability of diagnostic troubleshooting and tracing problems
- Know how to identify, report and/or resolve equipment problems promptly.
- Know how to identify causes of downtime and bottlenecks which cause a loss of production and take corrective action or offer suggestions to correct.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/leadership.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Entry level position. Does not require previous knowledge, will receive training to achieve desired level.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Approximately 6 months of work experience is required to become skilled in all phases of the job. Must be capable of reading a tape measure (8th 16th 32nd) while performing simple addition and subtraction. Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing due to accountability of production reporting.
INITIATIVE & INGENUITY: Work priorities are determined by build lists, line leaders or supervisor instructions. The crewmember is responsible for quality checking the raw materials and sub-assemblies frequently. Be capable of working with other crewmembers while following verbal and written instructions.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Under specific direction of Assembly line or department leader, Assembly Supervisor and Plant Manager, where goals and objective are established. Coordinate work with other crewmembers. Report any material handler deficiencies. Advise leads/supervisor of unusual circumstances as needed.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR ERRORS: Errors may be serious involving inventory and loss of materials and will become apparent in normal production runs.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Regular contact with crewmembers, other employees, lead people and staff members where improper handling may affect results. Clear, concise communications skills are important. Be able to identify quality issues and communicate effectively to lead and supervisor.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Flow of work and character of duties involve some repetitive use of hands, wrists and arms motions while standing a minimum of 8 hrs. per day with mandatory overtime during peak season. Rotating within the lines is required due to ergonomics. Normal and corrected hearing and vision are necessary with manual coordination some walking with frequent bending, twisting, stooping and lifting of approximately 35 lbs. Must have good hand eye coordination and be mechanically adaptable to using some hand tools. Alertness to quality and machine function is mandatory.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT: In order to advance this position will be required to become capable of limited troubleshooting all equipment on the line and perform the job safely. Damage to this equipment would result in a loss for the company.
WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: Exposed to normal factory environment (wood dust and aluminum) with no factors or hazards present to a disagreeable extent. Must be able to with stand heat up to 95 degrees.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: Must adhere to all safety rules and regulations as specified in the Safety Manual. This responsibility necessitates wearing of proper personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses & ear plugs) by each crewmember on the line.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This job includes other duties and responsibilities assigned by management. Regular attendance is essential to any position.
