SUMMARY

The Production Team Lead is an hourly position reporting to the Production Supervisor. This position is first shift Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm with overtime as needed. Production Team Lead is accountable for overseeing and conducting the manufacturing process which includes building batches, filling drums, labeling products, unloading bulk tanker trucks, providing direction to the hourly team, and will include the use of a forklift. The Production Team Lead is required to be an autonomous leader, and to be proficient with all tasks required for Production Technician and Specialist.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Safety:

  • Lead the team through demonstration of a “Safety First” mindset through understanding and execution on NP’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Must drive the “Safer Together” messaging with action and follow thru and demonstrate leadership in safety.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment is a critical aspect of safety.
  • Inspect and enlist team members in keeping work areas clean and functional.
  • Be observant of team members actions and provide guidance and escalate when necessary if unsafe acts occur.
  • Review and update JHA’s and Standard Work Instructions as needed.

Batching and Preparation of Materials:

  • Create new batches in ERP system based on demand; issue batch build documents to builders; assign accordingly
  • Batching/Preparation of Materials and dispensing of products thru proper setup and staging of raw materials to drive build to expected cycle time.
  • Perform “bulk add” process for initiating new batches.
  • Perform “small add” process as needed.
  • Understand and ensure “order of operations” are followed for build process.
  • Ensure a consistent and quality product from batch to batch.
  • Fully understand manufacturing procedures to identify process gaps and anticipate downstream results.
  • Ensure FIFO system is used on Raw Materials and proper rotation in hot box is executed.
  • Provide samples to and communicate with QC personnel to coordinate and commence drumming operations as needed.

Leadership:

  • Be a good model of leadership demonstrating commitment to Natural Polymers / Owens Corning Values.
  • Lead the production team by listening and removing barriers; be able to jump in to support.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and confirm processes are followed to ensure production goals are being met.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members and coordinate break/lunch rotations to ensure coverage to ensure daily production quotas/goals are met.
  • Be able to redirect personnel to new tasks as production priorities shift.
  • Escalate any safety, quality, productivity, or personnel issues to supervisor as needed.

Other Duties:

  • Own inbound bulk tank chemical unloading process; ability to perform task on own.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on equipment/process issues; determine corrective action.
  • Drive processes to ensure production and quality targets are met daily.
  • Operate a forklift to move finished products within the warehouse staging area.
  • Read instruments and accurately record readings
  • Work as a backup to the Shipping and Receiving Lead as necessary
  • Assisting with quarterly Inventory count.

  • Must be able to secure and maintain Powered Industrial Vehicle Certification
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must have to ability to do basic mathematical calculations
  • Must be able to maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Must be able to comply with all safety/work/procedures, rules and regulations
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting established productivity and accuracy standards

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • 2 years of manufacturing experience or related experience and/or training in an industrial environment
  • 1-2 years demonstrated team leadership experience
  • Preferred: 2-year forklift operating experience
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US
  • Must be drug and alcohol free

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires:

  • Standing for prolonged periods of time, over 8 hours if required
  • Work overtime, as needed
