PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the job is to lead your team and the plant at large in a safe and efficient manufacture of the product, meeting quality requirements and cost objectives. He or she is a member of the plant NLT (Natural Leadership Team) and has the responsibility to engage all employees by providing information and guidance to ensure excellence in product and service and minimize plant waste due to quality related defects. He or she ensures that our customer receives the best quality product and service from the plant by providing people leadership in the resolution of manufacturing problems and effectively communicating with all levels of the organization – including both external & internal customers & suppliers. The person in this position helps to implement organizational strategies, standards, and practices to achieve best-in-class performance.

Span of Control: Four (4) Production Supervisors, Department of 40 employees.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical or Engineering field
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Three (3) years leadership experience setting operational goals and coaching a team’s daily execution through challenges towards metric achievement

 

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering with experience in wet laid non-wovens or pulp and paper industry
  • Previous experience as a Process, Manufacturing or Control Engineer in a continuous operation industry
  • TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) experience

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

The employee should hold the following abilities:

 

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Must possess strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must be detail oriented and can multi-task
  • Must have strong internal and external customer service skills
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization – plant floor to board of directors 
  • Experience eliminating waste from processes applying Lean/TPM/6 Sigma methodologies 
  • Experienced in compliance and behavior-based safety programs intended to drive zero injury culture   
  • Experienced in the oversight and administration of process/product quality systems that ensures all received product by the customer is fit for use and defect free
  • Experience in structured performance management, mentoring employees to reach their potential

  • Must be able to travel up to 20%

   

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Lead Safety for an Injury Free Work Environment

  • Demonstrates through actions, working safely is a core value by making decisions and setting direction that proves commitment to providing a safe work environment for all employees. 
  • Provide a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Ensures a clear and effective measurement system is followed and used to drive results; rewards and celebrates safe behavior and achievements; ensures accountability.
  • Participates in work area self-inspections and accident investigations as well as recommends corrective actions to make the workplace safer.
  • Allocates resource requirements and investments required to achieve zero injuries, including systems, focused programs and leadership.
  • Leads and supports safety initiatives and processes to drive towards zero recordable injuries.
  • HRC (Hazard Recognition & Control) certified or working towards HRC certification with a clear plan/anticipated completion date.
  • Leads in the monthly safety one-on-ones with facility employees.
  • Leads through a safety lens with LPA’s (Layered Process Audit) for safety, inspection of PJHA’s and leading activities to provide the promotion of a facility safety culture.
  • Includes safety KPI’s and KAI’s as primary goals for personal performance. 

Lead and Develop Talent  

  • Create and sustain a culture where talent is developed through effective performance management and talent evaluation.
  • Effectively staff the organization with competent people using the appropriate mix of internal and external talent to satisfy both near-term and long-term succession needs.
  • Ensure a positive, creative, diverse and collaborative work environment where employees own the success of the business.
  • Plan, promote and organize training activities to constantly elevate the capabilities of employees.
  • Establish clear and measurable performance expectations and hold direct reports accountable for delivering the goals.
  • Actively participate in talent reviews as well as invest in the growth and development of self and others to achieve sustained success.
  • Maintain documentation, track, counsel and execute coaching and corrective action when performance issues occur.

Lead Across the Site (Plant/Division)

  • Drive alignment between plant departments.
  • Share best practices, challenge thinking and provide candid and respectful feedback; set an example for the organization of how teamwork and partnerships should work.
  • Be viewed as a great leader across the plant and sister Plants, driving engagement and supporting cross-functional projects and teams.
  • Assist the Plant Leader with other duties as required.

Manage Daily Operations

  • Identify and drives continuous improvement efforts through standardized work to cut cost and improve productivity and quality.
  • Set clear and measurable performance expectations, in line with plant goals; proactively analyzes and manages all relative operations performance metrics.
  • Effectively communicate goals and objectives.
  • Assign and coordinate the work in a manufacturing department to include supervising Production Supervisors and overseeing around 40 employees.
  • Prepares budgets relative to, manpower, production and volume forecasting necessary to meet customer demands.
  • Operate with zero environmental non-conformities to applicable company, government and regulatory policies.
  • Develop and manage the quality and product measurement systems to provide a consistent quality product.
  • Build an environment that develops and improves serving our customers.
