SUMMARY

The Maintenance Leader is a salary-exempt position responsible for assuring the reliability and uptime of all plant electrical, utility, and mechanical systems, and the improvement of equipment efficiencies and preventing and resolving technical problems. This is accomplished by auditing and optimizing Preventive Maintenance on all critical pieces of equipment, training craftsmen on how to optimize uptime and performance of equipment, life cycle asset management of all facility systems, leading the site predictive maintenance program, and partnering with process area owners to ensure equipment reliability. The Maintenance Leader will report directly to the Plant Leader.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES:

The employee duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1.  Live the Safety stand; adhere to the safety responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to employee health and safety, particularly through a commitment to zero injuries, awareness of hazards, and a strong understanding of legislative requirements in all aspects of the operation.

  • Injury prevention metrics
  • ZERO injuries

 

2.   Deliver equipment reliability and uptime to Operations

  • Keep Plant Leadership Team fully apprised of investments and/or resources required to ensure all electrical, utility and mechanical equipment/systems are operating in a fully restored condition. 
  • Own Utility support: air compressors, HVAC systems, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Work with Predictive Maintenance assets (internal and external) to eliminate failures that can be predicted utilizing predictive test equipment: such as, vibration data analysis, infrared thermography, oil analysis, and ultrasonic leak detection equipment.
  • Train maintenance mechanics and AM operators on key inspection, cleaning, and lubrication practices required on all critical utility and mechanical equipment.
  • Support TPM activities throughout the plant by optimization of PM’s, looking for AM inspection opportunities on critical equipment, and regular analysis of SAP activity report data for entire facility.
  • Work with different vendors to ensure our purchased equipment, storeroom parts, and contracted labor contracts places our facility in the most cost-competitive situation.
  • Actively support a “ZERO defect” culture within the crafts organization and the plant as a whole.
  • Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations, quality, and/or safety goal by usage of methodical problem-solving techniques.

 

3.  Ensure the crafts organization is well-trained and working efficiently

  • Actively participate in the training of the maintenance team
  • Responsibility of maintenance supervision to ensure our craftsmen are working efficiently and being effective on all planned and reactive work.
  • Be able to support craftsmen after-hours on troubleshooting equipment/process issues that go beyond their skill capabilities.
  • Advancement of training plans toward qualification and specialist levels.
  • Adhere to all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Utilize Root Cause Analysis/Break Down Analysis methods to problem solve process issues and increase equipment reliability, process capability, and improve product quality.
  • Identify opportunities for equipment efficiency and optimization resulting in increased productivity.
  • Partner with maintenance team to resolve all equipment issues in a timely manner.
  • Identifying and requesting capital funding for equipment, modifications, etc.
  • Identifying and eliminating common causes of product and process variation (troubleshooting).
  • Monitor and maintain all process-related programs to control product specifications and set points.
  • Implement best practices for process setup, maintenance, and process control.
  • Provide technical support to Operations and Leadership, as well as all customers.

SKILLS AND ABILTIES

  • Ability to organize and lead multi-functional teams to achieve plant objectives.
  • Strong listening and comprehension skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PLC systems.
  • Understanding and knowledge of mechanical drive systems, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems
  • Strong at managing projects through completion.
  • Utilizing data and data collection systems, and lean methodology for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses and unnecessary costs.
  • Able to create and implement strategic operations plans.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Business and Financial acumen to understand the drivers of success and how they interact.
  • External perspective and understands that all business opportunities start with the knowledge of how to create value for the customer.
  • Strong trouble-shooting skills.
  • Utilize Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook
  • Utilize SAP for data entry and reporting.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5 years manufacturing experience in a maintenance, electrical and/or reliability role
  • Understanding of planned maintenance techniques (RWP, SAP, etc.)
  • Microsoft Office capability
  • Experience with Total Productive Maintenance methodology and implementation and/or Lean certification preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Exposure to extreme temperature extremes indoors and outdoors of the plant 
  • Ability and willingness to utilize OSHA-approved hearing protection while working in noisy environments above 80 decibels.
  • Stand/walk for prolonged periods of time (10-12 hour shifts)
  • Engage in prolonged repetitive movements
  • Bend, turn, climb, crouch, reach or twist
  • Good eye-hand coordination
  • Ability to move up to fifty pounds (50 lbs.).
