SUMMARY

The Process Automation Controls Technician has responsibility for overall Electrical Maintenance Operations at the Denver Roofing facility.  This person is responsible for all aspects of the electrical maintenance processes, and uses engineering skills to drive improvements in safety, productivity and quality, while reducing costs and assuring environmental compliance. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES:

Living the Safety stand and adhering to the safety responsibilities

  • Educates team members on safe maintenance work processes and procedures
  • Adheres to, and continuously improves, all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards
  • Ensures a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and builds a culture where safety is a first priority
  • Effectively communicates Owens Corning’s stand of safety with external parties and ensures that they work according to our safety standards

 
Electrical Maintenance Operations

  • Maintains working knowledge of Corporate Control System Standards and Guidelines and adherence to OC Electrical Safety Programs
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on electrical engineering process improvements
  • Develop and ensure execution on Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs for all site electrical equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all electrical codes at a local and nation level
  • Lead plant electrical troubleshooting issues and develop corrective actions and recommendations to prevent reoccurrence (on call responsibilities)
  • Strong knowledge in both controls and power delivery
  • Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date and complete set of as-built electrical and controls documentation; including automation device data base (HMI’S, VFD’s, & PLC’s)
  • Develop capital projects as necessary; and ensure electrical led projects are on-time and in budget
  • Identifies and captures opportunities for reliability performance and cost improvement
  • Works closely with the Operation Department in a team-based environment that is designed to manage in a manner that will ensure continuously improving machine performance and employee efficiency
  • Promotes a service and quality culture within the department to meet/exceed established goals
  • Improves the reliability of the plant systems and assets with implementation of new technologies
  • Assists plant and corporate engineering in identifying and scoping control systems related projects
  • Provides Instrumentation, PLC, HMI, VFD’s, AspenTech, and hardware support to the plant maintenance staff
  • Coordinates work on PC-based control system equipment with IT and Security department
  • Support site security systems (gates, cameras, badge access, and lighting)
  • And all other functions and responsibilities as described by the Maintenance Department leadership personnel
     

Leading and Developing Talent

  • Develops and executes training plans for maintenance personnel and creates a continuous learning environment for employees
  • Assists in leading and coaching primary maintenance workforce and drives their engagement
  • Promotes a work environment characterized by mutual trust and respect, open and honest communications, teamwork and a passion for winning
  • Serves as a technical expert and invests in the growth and development of others

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Five or more years of experience in industrial electrical work
  • Strong background in preventive and predictive maintenance and reliability activities
  • Working knowledge of reliability tools; RCFA, FMEA, OEE, RCM, CMMS (SAP), etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and conduct formal root cause failure analysis
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (Roofing, Paper, or Food manufacturing a plus)
  • Be responsive to plant needs (availability to be on call 24/7)

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working with Allen Bradley PLC strongly preferred
  • Understanding of Ethernet\IP Communication and Network Technology (ControlNet)
  • Understanding of 15 KV Electrical Distribution
  • Understanding of Coordinated Multi Drive System (CIP Motion)
  • Experience utilizing SAP or other preventative maintenance computer programs and Microsoft Office products
  • Demonstrated ability to work both strategically and hands-on
  • A proven track record of driving results by engaging others
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and guide for results
  • Demonstrated ability to organize/lead multi-functional teams to achieve plant objectives
  • Experience working with AB PLC-5, SLC-500, CLX 5000 processors, HMI Panelviews, and Powerflex VFD’s
  • Instrumentation PID control in temperature, pressure, and level
  • Experience in C, C++, SCADA and Programming
  • Demonstrated maintenance and troubleshooting skills with PLC’s and VFD’s (Reliance drives)
  • 480-220 volt three phase
  • Electrical control systems: 110VAC, 24VDC, 0-10V, 4-20mA signal
  • Motor controls including the installation, wiring, and set up of variable frequency drives
  • Automatic valves digitally and proportionally controlled
  • Six Sigma/Lean manufacturing experience a plus
