Fiberizer Technician

The Fiberizer Technician provides hands-on technical support across the Insulation manufacturing network by maintaining, improving, and standardizing fiberizer shop practices. This role partners closely with Ridgeview, the Center of Excellence, S&T, and plant fiberizing teams to improve equipment reliability, strengthen maintenance standards, support part design improvements, and drive operational stability across the business.

This position is responsible for providing fiberizing maintenance support, developing and training others on fiberizer maintenance standards, and collaborating with S&T and COE partners to improve part supply, manufacturability, equipment performance, and component life.

Currently, this position works an 8-hour day shift, 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Starting pay is $36/hour.

FIBERIZING PLANT MAINTENANCE SUPPORT (40%):

• Identifies opportunities to improve maintenance practices related to fiberizing unit repair, refractory systems, and shop processes.
• Supports mechanical design, assembly, and troubleshooting activities while applying technical expertise to evaluate new fiberizing hardware.
• Partners with fiberizing teams on the design, development, testing, and implementation of new fiberizing concepts.
• Applies technical curiosity and strong mechanical aptitude to understand process operations and align mechanical improvements with fiberizing platform needs.
• Supports the development of new spinner designs and partners with metallurgy experts and R&D engineers to safely improve spinner life, reliability, and operating performance.
• Collaborates with the OC Fiberizing Mechanics network and S&T to support the design, development, validation, and deployment of new fiberizing concepts.
• Analyzes trial and hardware testing data and prepares clear, actionable technical reports.
• Works effectively across technical, maintenance, manufacturing, and innovation functions to support project success and consistent execution.

GENERAL RIDGEVIEW SUPPORT (20%):

• Completes assigned repairs, preventative maintenance activities, and plant support work at the Ridgeview facility as needed.

FIBERIZING SUPPLY CHAIN (20%):

• Partners with innovation and manufacturing teams to evaluate current processes and develop recommendations that improve quality, performance, reliability, and cost.
• Develops and applies technical and cost modeling tools to identify quality, performance, and cost improvement opportunities. Uses pilot and plant experiments to validate business potential.
• Supports product and process redesigns from concept through implementation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Advanced hands-on experience in fabrication, welding, machining, and troubleshooting mechanical assemblies.
• Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to turn concepts into practical solutions with limited direction.
• Working knowledge of mechanical design, testing, analysis, and continuous improvement methods.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to travel approximately 25-40% of the time to domestic and international facilities, including Canada and Mexico. Travel is typically planned in advance, with occasional emergency plant support required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5+ years of experience in fiberizing mechanics, operations, subsystem design, or equivalent technical experience.
• Experience handling, mixing, pouring, and curing castable refractory materials.
• Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting high-tolerance, high-precision rotary equipment.
• Experience working with high-temperature and high-speed rotating equipment in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of glass processing, melter controls, and safe operation of high-speed rotary equipment preferred.
• Demonstrated attention to detail with training or experience in root cause analysis, including process deviations, in-situ observations, and post-mortem review of successes and failures.

• Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply part prints with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong mechanical background with practical experience troubleshooting equipment and mechanical systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess issues, identify root causes, and support effective corrective actions.
• Ability to quickly build trust and communicate effectively with employees, leaders, technical partners, and cross-functional teams.
• Builds effective working relationships across plant, technical, maintenance, and innovation teams to support consistent execution of fiberizing standards and improvement initiatives.
