PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

The Operations Leader has responsibility for all areas of production at a manufacturing facility.  The person in this position helps to implement organizational strategies, standards and practices to achieve best-in-class performance in the following areas:

Reports to:  The position reports directly to the Plant Leader and is an integral partner in executing the operations strategy for the plant. The Operations Leader is a member of the Natural Leadership Team (NLT) consisting of leadership from the Maintenance, EHS, Finance, Warehouse and Human Resources departments.

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Lead safety and security for an injury free work environment

  • Provide a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors and visitors
  • Allocates resource requirements and investments required to achieve zero injuries, including systems, focused programs and leadership
  • Ensures a clear and effective measurement system is followed and used to drive results; rewards and celebrates safe behavior and achievements; ensures accountability

  • Recordable Incident Rate (RIR)
  • Near-miss reporting
  • SAFE Score (Management and Critical Six Modules)
  • Total Incident Rate

 

Manage Operations

  • Identify and drives continuous improvement efforts through standardized work to cut cost and improve productivity and quality
  • Set clear and measurable performance expectations, in line with plant goals; proactively analyzes and manages all relative operations performance metrics
  • Effectively communicate goals and objectives
  • Assign and coordinate the work in a manufacturing department to include supervising first line leaders, production leaders
  • Prepares budgets relative to capital expenditures, manpower, production, and space forecasting necessary to meet customer demands
  • Operate with zero environmental non-conformities to applicable company , government and regulatory policies
  • Develop and manage the quality and product measurement systems to provide a consistent quality product
  • Build an environment that develops and improves serving our customers
  • Partner with sales and customer facing groups as necessary to maintain positive business relationships
  • Serving as the Autonomous Maintenance (AM) Pillar Leader for the Fairburn Plant to realize the vision of being a best in class example of AM and to establish a culture where employees drive to achieve zero accidents, zero loss and zero defects.
  • Leading a lean culture environment through six sigma processes and toolsets
  • Assigning and coordinating the work in a manufacturing department to include supervising first line leaders, production leaders, and analyze productivity reports
  • Preparing budgets relative to capital expenditures, manpower, production, and space forecasting
  • Facilitating process improvements through people deployment, productivity enhancements, high performance work teams and being a model for change
  • Developing and leading strategic business plans; accountable for delivering plant performance metrics
  • Utilizing data driven decision-making processes, such as Six Sigma
  • Driving alignment between plant departments

  • Monitors labor activities and leverages labor relations resources as appropriate to ensure compliance with all collective bargaining agreements, company policies and/or governmental regulations
  • Builds a department worthy of being used as marketing and communications platform, both internal and external

Lead across the plant

  • Drive alignment between plant departments
  • Share best practices, challenge thinking and provide candid and respectful feedback; set an example for the organization of how teamwork and partnerships should work
  • Be seen as a great leader across the plant, driving engagement and supporting cross-functional projects and teams.
  • Assist the plant leader with other duties as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related discipline
  • 5+ Yrs. minimum work experience
  • A minimum of three years experience in manufacturing leading people in a cross- functional and complex manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to cross-functional team leadership or participation
  • A history of hiring, growing and promoting talent within the organization
  • Experience in dealing with both union and non-union operations and experience in contract negotiations
  • Six Sigma formal training and Lean manufacturing experience

 

Knowledge and Skills:

 

  • Computer skills- the ability to utilize OC systems and the software necessary for this role
  • Utilizing data and data collection systems, and Six Sigma methods for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses and unnecessary costs
