  • The Owens Corning Delmar Insulation Plant is a flagship plant within the OC Network that has been in operation for 45 years producing Fiberglas Insulation.
  • The plant operates two production lines 24/7 and employs ~250 individuals. 
  • Since 2020, Owens Corning has invested $60MM+ into the Delmar facility specifically to bring in more automated equipment and advanced technologies.
  • The plant has $300MM worth of equipment assets and is the highest volume producer of residential insulation within OC producing more than 360MM lbs annually.
  • Delmar utilizes the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) operating model. Since 2018, the plant has been on a TPM journey with goals to achieve JIPM Level 1 in the coming years.
  • This plant is a strong exporter of talent to higher roles within OC and within the plant team.  

 

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

This position will lead the Electrical Maintenance Operations for the Delmar Plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the electrical maintenance process.  They must demonstrate the ability to motivate people and must be viewed as a clear and credible communicator. They must have a passion for safety and be able to foster effective working relationships built upon trust and respect with plant employees and leaders.

 

Reports to:  Maintenance Leader

 

Span of Control:  The Delmar Plant has approximately 250 employees.  The Electrical Leader will have 15 hourly direct reports.  All of which are members of the USW union. 

 

  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electrical Maintenance Supervisor will have the responsibility to:

 

1. Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities.

 

  • Ensuring a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment and building a culture where safety is a priority.
  • Developing risk assessments for critical tasks
  • Be the subject matter expert for electrical safety being able to review and provide guidance on current programs.

 

Metrics

  • Ensure 95% completion rate in <30 days for all safety incident reports
  • Ensure 100% safety training completion for self and hourly team.
  • Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader
  • Safety metrics – RIR, first aids, near misses, SAFE and Critical 6
  • Leads Safety Standard Work and Hazard ID process
  • Ensures a safe work environment through employee coaching and engagement and strict adherence to OC’s safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure the injury-free performance primary member team

 

 

2. Responsible for all aspects of the Electrical Maintenance Operations.

 

Metrics

  • Develop and conduct Predictive Maintenance on all Electrical and Electronic Systems to improve plant reliability.
  • PM Completion of >80%.
  • Schedule completion of >70%.
  • Management of work order backlog utilizing SAP 6.0.
  • Completes and maintains required records and reports for all Electrical and Electronic Systems
  • Grow the service and quality culture in the department and meet/exceed established goals
  • Further develop craft training plans and create a continuous learning environment for employees.
  • Assist the Maintenance Leader in coordinating and maintaining the Maintenance Department Apprenticeship program (Up to 2 Electrical Apprentices)
  • Leading and coaching of a unionized primary electrical maintenance workforce (crew of approx 15) and driving engagement in the primary workforce
  • Actively participate in Total Productive Maintenance (PM Pillar) and lead efforts for root cause analysis on electrical / electronic failures.

 

 3. Technical resource regarding the insulation manufacturing process, equipment, and protocols

Metrics

  • Work with the Regional Controls Engineer to ensure we have the most current version available for all PLC’s, Panel View, and Drives.
  • Able to fully troubleshoot AC/DC/Servo line drives, DC motor control, process instrumentation, transformers, burner systems understanding, data acquisition, etc.
  • Actively participates & trains employees on trouble shooting best practices.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement of reliability performance and cost including making recommendations for Plant Capitol Investments.
  • Lead person for all electrical projects and installation that are the Maintenance Department Responsibility.

  • Works closely with the Production Department in a team-based environment that is designed to manage in a manner that will ensure continuously improving machine performance and employee efficiency
  • Ensure supervisory practices are consistent with the facility collective agreement and effectively manage the grievance resolution process
  • Develops and implement a work environment characterized by mutual trust and respect, open and honest communications, teamwork and a passion for wining
  • Effectively lead and manage change for their workgroup while maintaining high levels of employee engagement

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years progressive leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree of Science in an Engineering Discipline preferred.
  • Capability to read schematics and PI&D drawings

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • TPM / Six Sigma / Lean manufacturing experience is highly desired
  • Experience in Reliability Improvements
  • Technical knowledge in DCS control systems and PLC applications (Allen Bradley) preferred.

 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Understand the basic industrial electric code.
  • Basic Computer Knowledge (MS Word, Power Point and Excel)
  • Ability to engage employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects at one time
  • Lean Certification or evidence of Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Ability to make decisions based on facts and / or data including having the basic mathematics and technical skills to analyze data, interpret graphs, and combine related data
  • Ability to lead unionized hourly employees
  • Ability to create and drive change and effectively communicate to all levels in the organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as effectively facilitate open two-way communication both within and outside of the organization
  • Ability to work both strategically and hands-on
