Pay Rate: Minimum base pay of $40 depending on experience.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controls Specialist maintains a safe work environment by following all safety policies and procedures while supporting the operation of automated manufacturing equipment. Responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining PLCs, electrical controls, HMIs, sensors, drives, and related equipment. Performs preventive maintenance, identifies root causes of equipment issues, documents repairs, and supports continuous improvement efforts to maximize equipment reliability and uptime. Assists maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues on the production floor as needed. Must be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and participate in on-call support as required.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose Allen-Bradley (AB) PLC control system issues using ladder logic and FactoryTalk View HMI.
  • Follow change management procedures and develop PLC program modifications using Rockwell RSLogix/Studio 5000 software.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC platforms, including CompactLogix and ControlLogix processors, I/O modules, and related control systems. Experience with non-AB control systems is a plus.
  • Utilize AutoCAD to review, create, and maintain electrical schematics and equipment layout drawings.
  • Conduct incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and complete required documentation.
  • Document control system, equipment, and configuration changes.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial control components including photoeyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, VFDs, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders.
  • Troubleshoot PLC programs, ladder logic, hardware components (CPUs, backplanes, I/O modules, counters, and devices), and industrial communication networks, including Ethernet.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to maintenance technicians as needed.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues on the production floor.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support team and individual development.
  • Comply with all Owens Corning safety policies, procedures, and requirements, including safe work practices around equipment.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Basic Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying Allen-Bradley PLC-based control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience diagnosing Allen-Bradley PLC control system issues using ladder logic and FactoryTalk View HMI.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using AutoCAD to create, review, and maintain electrical schematics and control system layouts.
  • Working knowledge of Rockwell RSLogix/Studio 5000 software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with team members, leadership, vendors, and contractors.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and commitment to supporting production and maintenance operations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including off-shift hours as needed.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, including weekends and holidays.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Electronics, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment and industrial control systems.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and ControlLogix PLC platforms.
  • Experience with industrial networks, VFDs, servo systems, and related automation technologies.
