Shipping Clerk

Shift: Monday - Thursday 7:00am-5:30pm
Rate: $21 per hour
The Shipping Clerk to perform manual and clerical work in the Shipping environment. The Shipping Clerk must be an individual who communicates effectively and demonstrates a high degree of concern for the work, the workplace, and fellow employees. Assembles orders and prepares goods for shipment. Records shipment data, including weight, customer freight charges, and space availability. Completes shipping reports. Prepares invoices and verification of billing with accounts receivable ledger. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures daily internal controls are followed, performs self-assessment tests as required; develops corrective actions with management team to correct deficiencies.
- Acts as liaison between the Accounting and Logistics departments.
- Invoices all customer orders according to standard operating procedures and specifications; balances invoiced batch audit to shipping log for quantities.
- Provides documentation to the accounting department as requested; maintains shipping log (Manuel/Excel)
- Assists plant with physical inventory as needed.
- Position will audit invoices for accuracy and verify that load amounts are accurate.
- Assembles orders and prepares goods for shipment.
- Records shipment data, including weight, customer freight charges, and space availability (utilization).
- Notes all discrepancies. Reviews returned documents for errors, damages, and reports to CSR.
- Reprints place cards for short, shipped shelf items; verifies key rec upon receipt the next morning
- Checking of shipping to verify the correctness of the shipment against all documentation.
- Prepares documentation such as work orders, bills of lading and shipment orders to route materials.
- Verification and data entry of all incoming material shipments.
- Examines contents and compare with records, such as manifest, invoices or orders to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
- Records shipment data such as weight, charges, space availability, damages and discrepancies for reporting, accounting and recordkeeping purposes.
- Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipment and delivery of raw materials.
- Communicates with establishment representatives to rectify problems such as damages, shortages, and non-conformance to specifications and file freight claims.
- Computes amounts, such as space available, storage, shipping and demurrage charges using a calculator or price list.
- Send packages via Fed Ex or UPS as needed.
- Additional responsibilities as requested by Supervisor/Manager.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred but not required.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Previous manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
- Able to read and write in English preferred but not required.
- Basic math skills with ability to perform basic math calculations, such as, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Plus, knowledge of fractions and decimals
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
- Ability to compare actual measurements to specifications and determine if finished product is acceptable quality.
- Able to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule format.
- Ability to work in a team environment, good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to change.
- Good hand/eye coordination.
- Strong organizational skills required.
- High level of responsibility, first and final check of all inbound material (quantities and quality), works with little to no supervision.
- Excellent and constant communication skills needed, regular communication with
- with Warehouse and Inventory Supervisor, department employees, and truck drivers.
- Ability to use a computer for data entry.
- Intermediate knowledge of EXCEL.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office.
- Able to communicate with customers and vendors.
Physical/Mental Demands:
- Manually lift/slide/flip materials or boxes of material (max. 50 and 51 or higher with assistance), must be able to stand, sit, bend, lift, twist, agility - constant moving, squatting and kneeling.
- Face paced position - constant flow of materials, attention to details required.
- Mildly controlled environment - can expect some cold and heat during extreme weather conditions.
