Process Controls Engineer

SUMMARY
The individual in this role will be responsible for providing onsite support for the troubleshooting, design, and implementation of existing and new process control systems: PLCs, HMIs, drives, industrial robots, instrumentation, safety systems, and associated circuitry and programs.
This position will also provide advanced engineering expertise to solve problems and implement changes using process control technologies. This includes developing scope, estimating costs, and designing projects to install equipment and systems that support the improvement operation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with a safety-first mindset, a sense of urgency, and with focus on your customers
- Troubleshoot production issues related to PLCs, HMIs, drives, safety systems, IT/OT networks, and other control system devices using programming software and electrical schematics
- Evaluate root cause, and address technical issues with long term solutions in mind
- Design modifications for control systems, including specifying parts lists, producing schematics using AutoCAD, modifying programs, and leading commissioning efforts
- Evaluate and optimize processes and equipment operation through implementing changes to programs and circuitry
- Define and develop data within PLCs to support the operation's reporting needs
- Manage projects related to control system enhancements or retrofits
- Communicate and work with various operational, environmental, maintenance, and engineering levels in a team environment, while being self-motivated and accomplishing individual goals
- Effectively communicate with internal customers and leadership
- Keep documentation clean and programs backed up in alignment with established processes
- Train maintenance technicians and operators on new technology to allow proper maintenance and trouble shooting
- Support Break Down Analysis process and create One Point Lessons to support knowledge transfer
- Support and adhere to Reliability Work Process (RWP).
- Support and lead Plant TPM Initiatives and Projects
- Ensure adherence to management of change process.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Three or more years of professional experience working with PLC-based industrial process control systems
- Proficient PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming skills
- Knowledge of practical application of OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and ANSI standards
- Experience drawing schematics using AutoCAD
- Experience with Allen Bradley hardware and software
- Experience with drives, HMIs, and robotics
- Experience working on converting and packaging equipment
- Understanding of Ethernet-based industrial process control network
- Knowledge of 480v-5v Circuits
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in an engineering field (strongly preferred)
- Experience with Siemens hardware and software (strongly preferred)
- Certifications related to machine safety circuitry standards or specific control platforms
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining electrical power systems for various applications, ensuring they are efficient, reliable, and safe. (Preferred, but not required)
- Ability to influence without authority.

- Lift/carry/move up to 25 lbs. independently and heavier weights with assistance.

- Able to communicate with co-worker’s face to face, by telephone, and electronic communications.
- Possess manual dexterity necessary and ability to operate equipment, operate a computer, and other standard office equipment.
- Vision adequate to manipulate equipment controls, complete paperwork, utilize computers, and have depth perception.
