PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

The Roofing Systems Lab (RSL) Quality Assurance and Compliance Specialist leads and participates in the creation and auditing of all lab documentation, onboarding and training of new and existing talent, annual internal and external proficiency testing, equipment calibration/verification including PM schedules, and compliance with industry specific testing standards. This role requires leadership across the RSL and the enterprise, a collaborative working style and a commitment to continuous improvement. The Quality Assurance and Compliance Specialist will be directly accountable for all safety and quality management systems including LIMS for both Components and Shingles. In addition to ensuring quality and compliance the role will support product and proof of performance testing and demonstrate subject matter expertise for Shingles and Components testing.

Span of Control:  Individual contributor within RSL focused on Quality Assurance and Compliance pillar with collaboration required across R&A. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

Living Safely 

  • Actively participates in monthly safety meetings.
  • Ensures rigorous compliance to safety processes, documentation, and OC corporate policies.
  • Focuses on sustaining a safe work environment for self, team, and colleagues.
  • Leads documentation, annual audit and recertification of lab related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs), Lock Tag Try (LTT’s) or related procedures/practices.

Quality Management Systems

  • Develops self as an expert in test methods within the Roofing Systems Lab (Components and Shingles)
  • Lead and maintain lab quality process documentation and maintenance to support a high standard and quality of work.
  • In partnership with Senior Technical Staff (STL), Quality and Operational Excellence pillar review and update, test methods and maintain change log.
  • Maintain and update cross training matrix and establish robust training process, including contractors.
  • Track and execute calibrations/verifications of lab equipment, in addition create and maintain PM schedules.
  • Lead annual safety recertifications (SOP/JHA/LTT) and track compliance.
  • Establish and support yearly audit process to validate proficiency of lab.
  • Perform root cause analysis using statistical tools to identify quality non-conformances, implement, document, and communicate corrective actions.
  • Leads qualification and monitoring of external labs.
  • Establish quality metrics and report out to stakeholders.

 

Product Testing Support & Contractor Support

  • Supports Operational Excellence pillar in product testing including compliance testing, product refresh and new product development qualification, and OC & competitive product line review testing.
  • Supports lab leader in interviewing and hiring of full time and contract staff and associated onboarding as necessary.

 

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Partners with Quality to ensure test method alignment between Granville lab and plant quality control labs.
  • Lead uniformity in documentation processes across Shingles and Components.
  • Partners with LIMS SME to support LIMS implementation and ongoing maintenance.
  • Participate in external committees (ASTM), partner with STL’s as needed on balloted standards and task groups.
  • Sharing of quality/compliance best practices and collaboration across R&A and the enterprise.

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree preferred. 
  • 3+ years of experience working in a R&D laboratory environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Exposure to ASTM, and international standards
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Ability to be onsite for work

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstration of safe work practices.
  • Strong working knowledge of Roofing testing methodology and Roofing products.
  • Experience in quality management/procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new and innovative solutions and processes.
