PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The field application engineer is a key technical role in the Enterprise R&D – Products & Systems organization that is accountable for (1) delivering on product innovation initiatives, (2) aiding in the research and ideation on new innovation opportunities and (3) being a key resource to our internal teams and key customers regarding product performance & durability.  The primary function of this role is to facilitate innovation field trials from MVP to full solution and through early commercialization.  The outcome of that work is to learn from all participants in the trials, use key learnings and feedback to impact innovation development decisions, and define technical success for the early market of the innovation.  Additionally, you will provide technical consulting, involvement in sensoring buildings for data acquisition and building science durability evaluations. 

 

These tasks will be executed amongst internal and external stakeholders.  

  • Success will be measured through results of defined operational project plans and product development initiatives.
  • Range of accountability will be project dependent across North America
  • Preferred location being in Granville, OH, but can be remote within reasonable proximity to a major airport

 

Reports to: Sr. R&D Leader – Building Science & Enterprise Innovation   

Span of Control: No direct reports but significant amount of 3rd party project management 

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Work internally with cross-functional product development teams to test & validate efficacy of new innovations (30% approximate time)

  • Assist with ASTM tests (standard or revised) to validate efficacy of innovations in development
  • Installation of data acquisition devices; installation of temperature, humidity and moisture sensors
  • Evaluation of data outputs from validation tests and provide insights around risk, durability, efficacy and performance.   

 

Lead the technical execution of early stage (MVP) field trials to determine the efficacy, durability and performance of organic innovations currently in development.  (40% approximate time)

  • Execute field trials to determine efficacy of target solutions
  • Field trial project management; develop, execute & lead project plans with internal & external stakeholders
  • Utilize a curious mindset with projects to learn from industry partners & customers, evaluate where adjustment is required within project plans and adjust approach where required    

 

Be the early market technical resource for transformative innovation commercial launches                                 (30% approximate time)  

  • Lead the development of technical field application/installation guides
  • Train Owens Corning commercial team on how to effectively discuss the value of target solutions and best practices to scale them within the target geographies. 
  • Drive the technical success of early market trials with target customers.  Overcoming hurdles with sub-contractors and construction process.
  • Evaluation of data outputs and insights data along with customer & builder feedback to gain understanding of preferred product solutions, product trends and gaps in product offering

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to travel 50-70% of the time and located in reasonable proximity to a major airport 
  • 3+ years in building industry

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years with applied Building Science field experience (moisture, durability)
  • HVAC system knowledge
  • Structural engineering knowledge

 The base salary range for this position is $78,000 - $100,000.
