PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) is instrumental in the success of the Global Capital Delivery function, managing a portfolio of capital projects valued at approximately $1.2 billion. This role is essential for achieving the organization’s objectives of predictability, capital efficiency, and execution excellence.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 Strategic Leadership:

  • Strategic planning - Defining project management methodologies and leading portfolio execution planning and project governance. Provide strategic vision and leadership for the PMO function, ensuring alignment with governance and quality standards.
  • Drive Business Impact - Drive capital effectiveness for the project portfolio using internal and external benchmarking. Identify areas for improvement and establish improvement targets and maintain progress, which can drive competitiveness. Achieve predictability and success by providing tools and processes to adapt best practices. Provide actionable insights to peers and management, such as transparent comparisons to other industry projects. 
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to facilitate successful project execution. Collaborate with stakeholders to assess and prioritize project proposals with the highest strategic value and impact.

 

 

Talent Management:

  • Leadership & Mentoring: Direct the PMO, overseeing a team of 30 professionals, including project managers, cost estimators, project controllers, and safety managers. Mentor and coach PMO staff, sharing knowledge and best practices to promote professional growth and enhance team performance.
  • Resource management - Managing and allocating resources across projects based on budgets, schedules, and priorities 
  • Build Talent Pipeline - Develop a talent pipeline to address future business needs and support organizational objectives. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence within the PMO.

 

Project Execution Driving Competitive Results

  • Project Alignment - Aligning project objectives with the company's strategic goals . Prioritize and organize a diverse range of capital projects, efficiently allocating resources to meet deadlines.
  • Project Delivery - Ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. Ensure project teams use gated process, assurance process and governance structure. Establish clear frameworks for decision making.
  • Best Practices - Establishing best practices and sharing knowledge of best practices with PMO and Capital Delivery teams. 
  • Project Status - Manage, monitor, evaluate, and report on project performance. Manage project, program and portfolio deliverables and tasks. Monitor projects, programs, and portfolio to ensure compliance with project policies and standards as well as keeping to schedules, budgets and quality expectations. Provide project status and present data-driven insights and recommendations to senior management to inform strategic decision-making.

 

Governance, Management Systems & Metrics

  • Project Governance - Overseeing project portfolio governance, team leadership, tracking, monitoring, prioritization, communication, and quality controls.
  • Project Management Processes & Performance Management - Developing, implementing, and governing program management processes, tools, templates, policies, and metrics. Facilitate centralized& standardized communications, knowledge sharing, and issue resolution. 

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in capital project management, with a strong focus on engineering leadership and with extensive exposure to process manufacturing.
  • Leadership and strategic management skills to develop, coach, and direct the performance of a team to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Proven experience in project management, particularly with capital projects
  • Strong understanding of project performance management systems and benchmarking. Ability to evaluate and benchmark project performance, identify areas for improvement, implement best practices, and provide strategic insights and recommendations for project improvement.
  • Experience in using stage gate and/or FEL processes
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills, including the capacity to identify, assess and prioritize competing interests and needs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to travel as required for project oversight and vendor/partner collaboration
  • Executive presence with which to interact and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Skills and ability to clearly and concisely communicate verbally and in writing to convey complex concepts clearly and logically.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry (Insulation/Composites/Non-Wovens) regulations and standards.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
