PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

The Packaging and Automation Engineer will help to develop material handling, packaging, and automation systems. In addition to the responsibilities noted above this individual will be charged with developing a skill set in the implementation of systems for the movement and packaging of glass products. It is expected that the individual will develop as the subject matter expert in this field of focus and develop awareness for the product and business requirements for the material handling system design which drive the definition and specification of systems in their purview. 

 

Reports to:  Engineering Leader

Location & Travel: Granville OH, 30 – 40% Travel required.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Development of specifications for procurement and design of material handling, packaging and automation systems.
  • Design knowledge of material handling, packaging, and automation systems as well as general knowledge of overall design management and leadership.
  • Development of cost estimates for engineering leadership, fabrication, installation, and engineering design.
  • Supervision of mechanical / electrical designers in the development of designs for process equipment:  Hardware selection, drawings, layouts, and interface diagrams.
  • Configuration mechanical drive systems, understanding of approaches (torque, velocity, position control)
  • Basic knowledge of controls and electrical design to enable working with electrical counterparts on software development and HMI interfaces.
  • Experience in equipment checkout, debugging, commissioning, and start up activities.
  • Broad range of experience in the material handling, packaging, and automation industry.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering schemes for effective interface with electrical engineering colleagues in design of equipment.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Mechanical or Automation Engineering OR BS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years supporting mechanical manufacturing equipment.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • AutoCAD, Inventor & other related design packages.
  • Material Handling and packaging.
  • Knowledgeable with the interface & programming of Allen Bradley and Siemens controls.
  • 6 Sigma/Black or Green Belt
  • PMP Certification
  • Experience working on international projects.
