PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Roofing Systems Lab (Shingles and Components) Testing Lead specializes in product testing that delivers valuable insights for existing and/or new materials and products. This role will partner and collaborate across all of Roofing and will support innovation partner communications, prioritization, and execution of testing as well as drive continuous improvement throughout the lab to include quality and efficiency improvements, identification of new capabilities and test method development as required. In addition, the role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety and testing protocols and processes, while also demonstrating expertise in OC roofing products and Roofing specific characterization techniques.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Living Safely

  • Communication, Prioritization, and Testing Leadership
  • Collaborates with peers, leaders, and innovation partners to understand, identify, and execute on testing required to support business priorities and needs.
  • Serves as the technical point of contact for assigned products, innovation, operational, and capability projects by coordinating test plans, schedules, resources, and stakeholder communications.
  • Communicates testing priorities, progress, and RSL data clearly and regularly with partners across the organization.
  • Partners cross functionally across the division, business and externally to translate business needs into actionable laboratory execution plans and testing priorities.
  • Provides technical coaching, onboarding support and qualification guidance for new team members, contractors and external partners.
  • Leads product testing including compliance testing, product refresh and new product development qualification, OC & competitive product line review testing, supply security, productivity and more.

Technical Expertise, Testing Standards, and New Method Development

  • Develops self as the expert in product specific test methods across OC Roofing portfolio, actively participating in self and team proficiency assessments.
  • Develops deep understanding of product platforms through partnership with product teams to inform testing plans.
  • Utilizes statistical tools and data analysis techniques to evaluate results, troubleshoot issues, identify trends and support data-driven decision making.
  • Leads validation, implementation, documentation and continuous improvement of various laboratory systems and/or processes.
  • Supports automation and digital transformation initiatives that improve laboratory efficiency, data integrity, safety and testing throughput.
  • Through collaboration with the Tech Expertise & Custom Testing Solutions Pillar and partnership with product teams, creates, and implements new test methods that translate customer application needs to measurable product attributes supporting technical and IP claims to enable product differentiation and competitive advantage.
  • Protects OC Intellectual Property through following IP processes and documentation of procedures including new test methods, memo/technical reports and ensuring communication with non-OC contacts is covered under NDA when applicable.
  • Helps to coordinate third party testing as required.

Maintain Testing Excellence

  • Manages day-to-day testing and lab operations, including material flow, inventory, storage systems, equipment reliability, testing readiness, preventative maintenance, calibration, audit readiness, EHS compliance, and documentation to support safe, efficient, and compliant execution of business priorities.
  • Leads laboratory continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, efficiency, quality, automation, sustainability, and sharing best practices across Roofing innovation, plants, and the OC enterprise.
  • Ensures accurate, timely testing data and reporting for all owned test requests.
  • Partners with the RSL Quality Assurance and Compliance pillar to onboard and train talent, implement systems such as LIMS, and align test methods between Granville RSL and Roofing plant QC labs.
  • Stays current with applicable ASTM methods and supports product team trials as appropriate.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience working in an R&D laboratory environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Exposure to ASTM, and international standards.
  • Understanding of basic statistics and ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Demonstration of safe work practices.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong working knowledge of roofing testing methodology and Roofing products.
  • Experience with Smartsheet platform.
  • Experience with forklift operation and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new and innovative, partner inspired solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Demonstrated experience applying statistical analysis and root-cause problem solving methodologies to testing challenges.
  • Versed in TPM methodology.
  • Versed in LIMS implementation and utilization.
