The Decarbonization Analytics Sustainability Intern will be responsible for evaluating the impacts that various process changes have on Owens Corning’s Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions. In this role, the intern will need to learn and understand new and existing processes across all Owens Corning business units to determine primary and secondary impacts on carbon emissions. Additionally, the intern will need to gain familiarity with Greenhouse Gas Protocols and Life Cycle Assessment methodologies to ensure the accuracy of projected impacts on reported carbon emissions. This position will require collaboration with multiple other functions, including Operations, Capital Delivery, Process Engineering, Sustainability Reporting, and Sustainability Analytics teams.

Duration of position: 3 months, full time
Key Responsibilities for Position
- Learn and apply methodologies to develop new models for carbon emissions impact analysis.
- Quickly learn the technical details and process dynamics of manufacturing equipment from OC subject matter experts
- Study GHG Protocols and LCA methods to gain understanding of OC reporting practices
- Develop new models to quantify impacts of process changes to OC emissions by determining changes in usage of raw materials and energy
- Accurately translate process impacts into carbon emissions impacts in accordance with reporting standards
- Deliver a generalized model for analysis as well as a report on results from analysis of selected OC processes
- Data Collection, Analysis, and Standardization
- Autonomously gather, compile, analyze, prepare, and summarize data for complex projects.
- Identify and collect key sources of information from databases, literature, and/or subject matter experts
- Drive standardization of the methodologies and data to ensure the consistency of results across all applications
- Provide analyses from key datasets to provide business insights and refine the generalized model for future analytics
- Effective Communication, Engagement, and Documentation
- Communicate methods and findings to various audiences of differing backgrounds from business leaders to process area experts
- Develop and deploy a compelling narrative from the data and findings that challenges the status quo, drives impact, and causes changes in behavior
- Thoroughly document procedures and findings to provide a governance structure for future analysts to recreate and expand the use of developed methods
Minimum Qualifications for Role
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or a similar quantitative field
- Currently Pursuing master’s degree in a science, engineering, mathematics, or an MBA
- Strong computer skills relevant for data manipulation and analysis. Strong skills with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to quickly learn new subjects and apply learnings
- Self-motivated to drive projects
- Experience performing analysis of data from operations environments

- Providing support and guidance to individuals throughout the rotation period
- Connecting individual to sustainability, operations, and engineering contacts needed inside and outside the company
- Ensuring development of sound and scientific methodologies to help track towards our goals
- Ensuring the documentation of the proposed methodology
- Building out a structure plan for onboarding, program success, and eventual off-boarding back to respective business
