Gypsum Technician

Reports to: Operations Leader and/or Team Coach

SUMMARY

The Gypsum Technician is an hourly position that reports to the Team Coach and Operations Leader. The employee is responsible for safely executing production and material handling activities to ensure the timely completion of the production schedule and delivery of high-quality products to Owens Corning customers. This role supports operational excellence through adherence to safety standards, product quality, autonomous maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow all plant safety policies, procedures, and expectations; safety is a condition of employment
• Process and package gypsum precursor material into finished product in accordance with production standards
• Inspect, operate, and safely handle powered industrial vehicles (PIV)
• Transport and stage packaging materials and finished goods to support production flow
• Utilize Owens Corning inventory systems to accurately transfer, store, and track material
• Perform routine quality inspections and respond to product deviations
• Participate in TPM activities including cleaning, inspection, tightening, and lubrication (CILT) of equipment
• Demonstrate ownership of autonomous maintenance activities and equipment basic care
• Identify equipment abnormalities and escalate issues to appropriate personnel
• Utilize problem-solving tools (RCA, FI) to eliminate losses and improve performance
• Maintain adherence to standard operating procedures, product specifications, and packaging standards
• Maintain strong communication during shift changes, breaks, and production handoffs

• Ensures proper operation of the Gypsum Product Line
• Maintain a knowledge of the Gypsum Product Line
• Maintains a daily shift operation record
• Conducts daily shift inspections of the Gypsum Product Line
• Maintains knowledge of emergency procedures as it relates to the Gypsum Product Line
• Maintains knowledge of how emergency backup equipment starts, operates and is reset to operate automatically
• Responsible for housekeeping in and around the Gypsum Product Line
• Responsible for maintaining basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting knowledge
• Makes decisions as it relates to the Gypsum Product Line
• Writes, modifies or changes work instructions
• Audits the Gypsum Product Line
• Participates as a member of the warehouse work team
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in alignment with 5S and housekeeping standards

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.  Individual should have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence; as well as to speak effectively before group of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Individual should have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; as well as apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Contact Management, Database Software, E-mail, Inventory, Manufacturing Software, Order processing, Payroll, Spreadsheets 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Or one to three month related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience 
• Must be forklift certifited or able to obtain certification

PAY: $19.00 Per Hour
