Summary
The Jacksonville Assistant Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator serves as an extension of site leadership within an industrial manufacturing environment. This hands-on, onsite role is responsible for driving an injury-free and incident-free workplace through visible floor presence, effective coaching, effective training execution, disciplined execution of EHS management systems, and employee engagement.
The Assistant EHS Coordinator supports regulatory compliance, Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) risk reduction, Human Performance Improvement (HPI), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) implementation and sustainability, and environmental stewardship, while partnering closely with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to proactively identify, assess, and control workplace risk.
This role requires daily engagement in the production environment and participation across multiple shifts, including off shifts.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead by example in all aspects of Environmental, Health & Safety while reinforcing Owens Corning’s safety-first culture.
- Maintain regular onsite presence in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Support the Environmental, Health & Safety Department’s administrative needs by managing program updates, proper recordkeeping and retention, and internal inspections and audits
- Provide monthly safety trainings for both Roofing and Asphalt employees. Note: This will periodically require off-hours work.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
- Coach supervisors and employees through floor engagement, safety observations, and proactive risk-based discussions.
- Lead initiatives to reduce the site’s waste streams and improve its recycling programs.
- Support other EH&S initiatives as needed.
Skills and Abilities
The employee should have the following abilities
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
- Experience with leading and facilitating small groups
- Good oral and written communication
- Must be able to multi-task
- Must work well in a team environment and well as alone
- Intermediate computer skills (Excel, Word, Access)
Education and/or Experience
The employee should have the following
- High school or GED equivalency ( some advanced course work on environmental terminology a plus)
- Education, training, or work experience in coordinating environmental health and safety systems in a manufacturing setting
Essential Physical Requirements
The employee should possess the ability to
- Ability to work up to 8 hours in extreme hot/cold environment
- Ability to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to safeguard self with proper PPE for the specific task
- Ability to sit up to 6 hours continuously
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours occasionally
- Ability to get into tight/dark spaces to read gauges
- Ability to climb stairs to monitor air/water systems
