MAINTENANCE LEAD

 

SUMMARY

 

This job description covers the most significant duties performed but does not encompass all work assignments which require comparable skills, efforts, and experience. 

 

The person in this classification is expected to perform as a professional, highly skilled, and exceptionally competent maintenance person and leader. They are responsible for leading the day-to-day work associated with maintaining the asphalt plant & planning and scheduling jobs for maintenance personnel. They must be able to analyze causes of breakdowns and initiate corrective measures; lead and manage the training and development of other mechanics; complete all required records and reports; and lead and participate in teams to develop and implement engineering solutions to improve equipment reliability and plant efficiency.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety

  • Ensures a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment, building a culture where safety is the number one priority.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Leads and supports safety initiatives and processes to drive towards zero injuries.
  • Assists with and provides safety training as qualified.
  • Maintains plant housekeeping expectations to ensure a safe plant environment.
  • Follow escalation policy for any accident, near miss, or on-the-job injury including notifying key members of Jacksonville Leadership Team.
  • Participates in the investigation of safety incidents and leads root cause analysis to drive for permanent resolution.
  • Fix and report all unsafe work conditions.

Maintenance

  • Ensures the maintenance strategy for the plant aligns with the business goals by identifying, planning, and prioritizing work, developing, and supporting plans for improvement, identifying, and preparing capital project proposals.
  • Effectively develops, scopes, and executes projects to drive safety, reliability, and productivity.
  • Effectively manage all capital projects/installations and delivers results in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Helps to maintain budget (labor, contractor, repair & replacement) and inventory of spare parts in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Lead and manage the daily activities of the Maintenance Technicians (i.e. daily scheduling, reviewing job completion, performance, policy compliance, etc.).
  • Lead and support the Maintenance Technicians from onboarding through job certification, including assisting with performance reviews, scheduling training courses, and providing coaching and work experiences to build their skills.
  • Execute maintenance activities by coordinating with the Operations team to plan and identify priority work, schedule resources, and work within the budget guidelines.
  • Active participant in the daily huddles, and plant planning meetings.
  • Reviews the daily RWP (Reliability Work Process) process to prioritize the operations and maintenance tasks and achieve sustained facility reliability.
  • Off-shift resource for complex troubleshooting of production systems.

TPM

  • Leads the PM Pillar including setting masterplan and delegating assignments to support plant’s masterplan.
  • Heavy involvement in the development and execution of 5S in the Maintenance Shop.
  • Leads and supports the training and development of the Maintenance Team through the skills matrix and the T&D Pillar.
  • Participation in Focused Improvement teams.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The employee should hold the following skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated desire to impact safety.
  • Demonstrates quality and craftmanship and holds others accountable to this standard.
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team atmosphere with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated mechanical, electrical and controls aptitude. Strong troubleshooting skills in all areas.
  • Solid foundation in Reliable Work Practices and SAP interface.
  • Perform all TPM duties necessary to ensure the safety of the plant and drive to successful attainment of zero losses, zero defects, and zero injuries.

 

 

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Proficient in SAP.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3-year experience in a Maintenance team. Preferably as a 1st Class Mechanic or Multi-Trade Technician.
  • Manufacturing or process related experience.

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to routinely lift up to 80 lbs. With assistance.
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Work up to 12 hours in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment.
  • Walk/stand on concrete floor, as required during shift work lasting 8-12 hours.
  • Routinely ascend and descend stairs and ladders.
  • Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary for task
  • Use cleaning equipment or tools as necessary for housekeeping duties in accordance with all safety rules.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
