Summary:

The purpose of the Maintenance Planner is to perform as professional, highly skilled and exceptionally competent maintenance person in addition to handling the certification, training and management of contractors and all planned maintenance. This role will handle full-time planning under the oversight of the supervisor, including prioritizing, specifying parts, and completing proper job plans for the maintenance department. This person will be expected to be attentive to details, utilizing critical thinking and reasoning skills to plan efficiently and effectively the work that needs to be done and in what order to ensure maximized machine uptime and reliability.

           

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The person awarded this role will be expected to demonstrate ability to execute the following:

 

  • Create and input work notifications based on observations of defects
  • Provide detailed scope of work, including estimates of key work steps, materials, manpower, and additional resources as needed for all planned work
  • Familiar with precision maintenance tools and applications and utilize in work plans when appropriate
  • Evaluate PMs for effectiveness, ensuring instructions are clear and concise, measurement based as much as possible, focused on identifying defects and failures; updates as needed
  • Conduct regular pre-job and post-job quality audits
  • Update and correct equipment files, specifications, parts lists (BOM), descriptions, etc. as errors or outdated information are encountered
  • Maintain organized and current technical library (blueprints, technical documents, service manuals, etc.)
  • Research parts and create requisitions using cost effective, quality parts in compliance with all sourcing policies and procedures
  • Determine when failed parts can be rebuilt or repaired in lieu of replacing
  • Keep up with turning notifications into work orders in a timely manner to ensure available down time is fully utilized – does not allow aged work orders to accumulate
  • Maintain a reasonable backlog to ensure a balance of up-time and down-time work is always ready to schedule
  • Work in conjunction with Parts Room Attendant to ensure materials availability and kitting of planned work, auditing kit area at least once per month
  • Spend sufficient time out in the plant scoping work (approximately 30%)
  • Help to determine root cause of failures and help identify and implement permanent corrective actions, with may include creating new PMs, working with team to design improvements, identifying critical spare parts, benchmarking other plants, etc.
  • Effectively plans all extended shutdowns, including coordination with other departments and contractors, with support as needed
  • Ensure craftsmen understand and comply with RWP steps; conduct training as necessary
  • Able to support after normal working hours or off shifts for emergencies and shutdowns
  • Work collaboratively with Maintenance Scheduler/Supervisor
  • Back up Maintenance Scheduler, and others as required
  • Comply with all plant rules
  • Comply with safety regulations, maintain a clean and orderly work area, and assist in building a culture where safety is the first priority.
  • Regular Attendance per attendance policy
  • All other duties as assigned or needed

 

 

Skills and Abilities:

The employee should be able to demonstrate the following abilities:

 

  • Ability to work well with others to assign work and follow up constructively when work not completed to full scope as planned. – Teambuilding
  • Read and write in English
  • Perform basic arithmetic – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and work with fractions
  • Able to read blue prints, equipment schematics and parts breakdowns
  • Able to use manuals, computer searches, and/or vendor contacts to research parts.
  • Able to use full range of measurement tools, including but not limited to: tape measure, caliper, micrometer, pi tape, etc.
  • Able to use Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Able to navigate and use SAP
  • Attention to detail, and able to make reasonable assumptions and assessments regarding equipment condition
  • Display patience in training and utilize various mediums of learning to ensure best understanding of person being trained (visual, text, manuals, presentations, etc)

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Acceptable mechanical aptitude score
  • Must be a self-starter that displays initiative and a willingness to learn
  • Minimum of four (4) years in a related trade or occupation that involved machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Microsoft Suite experience and working knowledge required

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

 

  • Ability to routinely lift up to 40 lbs without assistance
  • Work in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in cramped areas and enter confined spaces
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to walk up and down ladders, stairs and platforms frequently
  • Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – steel toed shoes, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) as necessary for task
