Job Title: Industrial Maintenance Technician

Purpose of the Job: The Industrial Maintenance Technician ensures the reliability, performance, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical devices in the plant. This role involves troubleshooting, preventative and predictive maintenance, and eliminating special cause variations. As a subject matter expert, you will drive quality and optimize plant efficiency while promoting a strong safety culture.

Reports to: Maintenance Leader

Team Structure: Part of a Maintenance team of 9 within a plant of 48 employees.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all plant safety practices, codes, procedures, and programs.
  • Communicate with plant personnel to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
  • Complete work assignments as per Work Orders, seeking assistance when needed.
  • Utilize computer systems (SAP, work orders, inventory, etc.) to manage data and complete records.
  • Understand and perform tasks related to Preventative and Predictive Maintenance Systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop plans to improve plant quality and efficiency.
  • Complete paperwork and computer notations for Work Orders, PMs, Parts Requisitions, and Scheduling.
  • Identify and order required parts or supplies.
  • Respond urgently to plant process and safety emergencies.
  • Understand the production process and the role of major equipment in product quality.
  • Participate in work teams and committees to enhance plant performance.
  • Identify and eliminate waste in processes and procedures.
  • Assist with bulk unloading of raw materials.
  • Rebuild complex mechanical equipment such as valves, pumps, and fiberizers.
  • Perform complex rebuilds and modifications of plant systems and equipment.
  • Perform welding, basic pipefitting, and hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Perform complex electrical troubleshooting and repairs. Read and interpret complex electrical schematics.
  • Regularly inspect the work area to ensure all safety policies and practices are followed and a high degree of industrial housekeeping is maintained.
  • Drive cultural change and initiatives emphasizing safety, communication, cooperation, development, teamwork, environmental compliance, quality, productivity, and waste elimination.

  • Ensure production schedules are adhered to meet shipping and sales commitments.
  • Assist in and/or perform inspection, monitoring, record keeping, and other activities related to the plant’s environmental permits and policies.

  • Participate in and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with respiratory protection policy.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred Experience:

  • 3-5 years of industrial mechanical experience
  • 3-5 years of industrial electrical experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in PC operations.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Proficiency in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Knowledge of conveyor systems
  • Expertise in pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Familiarity with robotics
  • Experience with high voltage systems
  • Understanding of three-phase motors

Essential Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Exposure to temperature extremes.
  • Exposure to uncomfortable noise levels.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing for 8-hour shifts (and/or rotating shifts).
  • Bending or twisting.
  • Handling, controlling, or feeling objects, tools, or controls.
  • Lifting/carrying/moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular on-site attendance and ability to work varying or rotating shifts.
  • Wearing respirator protection.
  • Participation in safety and good housekeeping programs.
