SUMMARY

 

The Utility position is an hourly position, and reports to the Production Shift Supervisor. The employee is responsible for ensuring that the end process of producing quality shingles continues even during process upsets. The Utility ensures that only quality product makes it from the production line.

 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • SAFETY
    • Follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures, training, and initiatives.
    • Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas.
    • Participate on safety teams.
    • Engages in TPM activities, supporting the plant initiatives.
    • Actively leads and improves TPM processes.                   
    • Encourages new ideas to create best practices.                         
    • Supports pillar progress and addresses issues by submitting TPM tags ensuring continued progress for the plant.
  • QUALITY
    • Perform laminator quality checks.
    • Compliant with the Layered Process Audit requirements
    • Check measurements of shingles
      • Ensure bundles are properly stacked when exiting autocatchers.
    • Evaluate viewing board.
    • Monitor and report unusual or suspect material issues.
      • Remove off-specification shingles from line.
      • Ensure that no granule build-up is falling onto bundles.
      • Remove splices.
      • Monitor levels and application of laminate and seal.
  • PRODUCTION
    • Be familiar with the functions and components of the autocatchers.
    • Be familiar with all areas of operations.
    • Demonstrate Autonomous Maintenance (AM) ownership of equipment (5S - Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; CIL- Cleaning Inspection and Lubrication Standards, etc.)
    • Strive to maintain TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) goals of zero losses, zero accidents, zero defects.
    • Clear machine jams
    • Assist in cleaning all machines, as necessary.
    • Wrap or rewrap finished product as necessary.
    • Assist in lace-up procedures.
    • Handle, stack, weigh, mark, and store product in proper location
    • Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) or downtime cleaning and Autonomous Maintenance (AM) activities.
    • Perform process stops actions.
    • Display shingles on viewing board every hour and during color changes
    • Assist Utility team members to keep front end of line running smoothly.
    • Relieve Utility team members for break periods.
    • Visibly verify completion and submission of operator paperwork
    • Participate in process teams (Ex. TPM)
    • Perform assigned housekeeping tasks.
    • Shrouding Finished Product

 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Must be able to read Human Machine Interface and understand control of Accumulator Conveyor
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must be able to work at a rapid pace in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to work all shifts including nights.
  • Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility are required.
  • Must have the ability to do basic mathematical calculations.
  • Must be able to work with a computer to perform basic data entry.
  • Must be able to obtain a forklift license.

 

 

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

 

  • Must be able to operate a computer or other keyboard instrument.

 

           

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

 

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

 

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Exposure to temperature extremes
  • Exposure to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, fiberglass particles, and fumes
  • Prolonged standing for 8 – 16-hour shifts
  • Mandatory overtime as required.
  • Repetitive movements
  • Frequent climbing, bending, twisting, and lifting.
  • Handle, control, and feed product
  • Ability to frequently move 40-100 pounds (lift over 40 pounds only with a team member)

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED TRAINING

  • All annual safety and role specific training, as required by the nature of this position.
  • Initial TPM AM Steps and additional training as site progresses.
  • Engages in TPM Activities, supporting in plant initiatives.
  • Actively leads and improves TPM processes.

 

 

  • The involvement in TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) is mandatory. This is a system by which we improve our everyday processes and quality of work.
