SUMMARY
The Plant Quality and Technical Engineering Leader is accountable to ensure a quality product is being manufactured to meet or exceed our customer expectations. The Plant Quality and Technical Engineering Leader establishes and maintains accurate process recipes for operations to safely produce products that consistently meet codes, specifications, and customer requirements at the lowest cost. They are accountable to continuously improve the manufacturing process using Total Productive Maintenance ideologies and tactics (TPM) to eliminate waste, improve safety, reduce cost, increase capacity and productivity, and improve the product.
The Plant Quality and Technical Engineering Leader reports directly to the Site Leader and is part of the Site Leadership Team.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities.
The Plant Quality and Technical Engineering Leader will have responsibility for:
- Ensuring a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and building a culture where safety is the first and highest priority.
- Ensuring that all control plans, work instructions, and other procedures related to the technical operation of the production lines minimize the risk to employees.
- Developing risk assessments for critical tasks
- Ensure participation in all plant safety activities by his team and the MLPs under his leadership.
- Identifying, understanding, and teaching others the Critical Product Characteristics required to provide our customers with the highest quality product.
- Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Accountable for training new and existing employees on customer and industry product requirements, quality testing, process and equipment theory of operation and setpoints and Quality Management (QM) and Focused Improvement (FI) pillar work
- Review lab standards and ensure lab equipment is functional meeting all specs.
- Works with roofing quality teams to make sure technicians are using correct test methods
- Is responsible for ensuring proper disposition of clam returns, hold materials or trial material
- Supporting experiments or trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet our customer’s fitness for use.
- Customer complaint participation, including job and home visits to personally view product in field.
- Leading the QM TPM Pillar
- Acting as the site Customer Champion.
- Ensuring Plant is following all Quality Foundational Elements
TPM
- The Technical Leader will serve as QM, FI & EM TPM Pillar Lead
- Lead, coach and solicit input from team members to drive successful execution of TPM site goals.
- Work closely with the T&D pillar to coordinate training.
- Drive root cause analysis.
- Lead rapid improvements in Safety, Quality and Productivity.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE
- B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience within a manufacturing or technical environment
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, master’s degree preferred.
- Providing leadership to teams within a manufacturing organization – such as leading operations planning, savings, forecasting
- Delivering continuous improvement.
- Participating in the development of strategic plans
- Attracting, developing and retaining outstanding talent—growing talent and succession planning.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong background in Statistical Process Control techniques
- Ability to analyze and use data to drive process improvements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects at one time.
- Six Sigma Black Belt (preferred)
- Lean Certification or evidence of Lean Manufacturing experience
- Knowledge and experience with design of experiments
- Demonstrated ability to teach and communicate clearly and concisely
- Demonstrated ability to manage and control costs – effectively develops business cases and enrolls leaders to take appropriate action
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute strategic directions
- Broad operating style, ability to adapt across cultures, environments, and styles.
- Forward thinking leadership abilities, including ability to motivate, lead by example, and encourage teamwork and effective communication.
- Makes decisions and commits to action with appropriate information, weighing and managing risk
- Conducts himself/herself with the highest ethical and moral standards
