SUMMARY

The purpose of the Warehouse Leader role is to ensure an efficient day to day operation of the Minneapolis Warehouse. This role is responsible for leading and maintaining an autonomous work environment, where employees work together to safely provide quality shingle products to customers in a fast-paced environment.

 

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Accountable for employee safety

  • Models the appropriate safe work practices and prioritizes safety above all other metrics.
  • Keeps the team focused on safe work behaviors, holding employees and peers accountable for working safely. Maintain active engagement in safety initiatives to maintain a zero-incident culture.
  • Provides appropriate resources to ensure a fully engaged and incident-free operation.
  • Ensures the warehouse is clean and in a customer-ready state; owns a plan that identified hazards, including housekeeping issues, resolves and sustains the plan in an ongoing fashion.
  • Ensures the safe logistic operations of a shingle products in accordance with schedule requirements and customer demand.

 

Align with the Roofing business goals

  • Develops and achieves personal objectives that stretch self and align to the Department, Plant, Division, and Company goals.
  • Success will be measured by the Warehouse Leader’s ability to coordinate with peer group to collectively achieve operational excellence in safety, quality, cost control, inclusion, engagement, inter-department cohesion, and compliance.
  • Is a positive change agent encouraging and closely involved in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) efforts to ensure shift culture mirrors plant initiatives.
  • Assists in developing their staff understanding of the equipment, process, and the effects of their actions up and downstream to their area. Ensures a macro and micro level understanding of the processes and the inter-relation to the individual work area.
  • Ensures employee training materials are maintained up to date through routine audit and management of change process input to Training and Development (T&D) Pillar Leader when changes occur in processes.
  • Develops and manages succession planning processes. Perform and ensure proper documentation of training and cross-training of all employees as necessary to maintain a flexible work environment capable of meeting varied demands.

  • Actively manages the continued training, development, and growth of all personnel.
  • Provides daily management of timekeeping systems to ensure payroll accuracy is maintained.

  • Sets clear expectations of performance and establishes, communicates, and regularly reviews commitments to make certain milestones are achieved as planned.
  • Provides daily management of to ensure accurate inventory and reporting. Perform audits to ensure data accuracy of all inputs (i.e. check sheets, layered process audits, computer inputs, etc.).
  • Maintains professional and motivating communication skills. Encourage all employees to build strong working relationships and communication through sharing, respect, candor, integrity, innovation, accountability, and fun.
  • Represent the entire management team when operating on and off shift.

 

Understand product quality; Use people and systems to drive improved productivity

  • Prepare for and lead department huddles to cover important and relevant topics including safety, quality, and performance.
  • Sustain high levels of product quality, with a target of zero SEC’s (Service Exception Complaints).  Root cause SEC issues and ensure proper controls are in place to prevent future issues.
  • Ensures effective logistics processes such as IVC (inventory management systems) and inbound/outbound freight.
  • Audits shift team job functions to ensure compliance to Standardized Operating Procedures and maintain record of findings.
  • Maintains all implemented 5S improvements and ensures housekeeping expectations.
  • Maintain cross-functional relationships with the operations, finance, and supply chain departments; coordinate strategies, communications, and joint initiatives for the Minneapolis facility.
  • Maintains professional and motivating communication skills. Encourage all employees to build strong working relationships and communication through sharing, respect, candor, integrity, innovation, accountability, and fun.
  • Monitor and enforce all Plant and Company policies and procedures. Implements and documents correction actions as needed.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Good understanding of logistic processes and the ability to apply the basic principles of TPM
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication, listening, coaching, delegation, and conflict management and resolution
  • Ability to make critical decisions and take decisive action in a timely manner
  • Capacity to work independently and within a team-oriented environment
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills

 

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

A strong candidate must be able to:

 

  • Utilize basic computer skills; ability to work in SAP, POP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Kronos, and AQ.
  • Log into and navigate Owens Corning Learning portal to complete required online training routinely

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Completed High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred
  • 2 years of leadership experience within an industrial manufacturing or logistic operations environment; 5 years of progressive experience leading people is strongly preferred

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

A strong candidate should possess the ability to:

 

  • Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs without assistance
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 80 lbs with assistance
  • Work for up to 12 hours in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
  • Operate/sit/drive, as required during shift work lasting 12 hours.
  • Routinely ascend and descend stairs and forklift to enter work areas
  • Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – steel toed shoes, ear plugs, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) as necessary for task
  • Push/drive floor sweeping and cleaning equipment or tools as necessary for housekeeping duties
  • Schedule flexibility as needed to accommodate operation needs

The base salary range for this position is $78,000 to $100,000, with the potential for up to an additional 25% if the applicant hired has additional related qualifications.
