SUMMARY

 

The purpose of the Step to Operator position is to prepare an employee to become a plant-wide resource with knowledge and understanding of the entire asphalt production process. The expectation would be to move into the asphalt Operator position after 14 months in this role, with primary responsibilities involving the daily processes in the production of asphalt.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Operations

 

  • Work with Operators to learn, understand, and operate all plant valves, lines, and steam system
  • Understand the blending of fluxes to produce finished product
  • Test, measure and maintain records on quality data
  • Fill and complete the transfers of tanks
  • Learn to operate oxidized equipment to blend and complete finish asphalt product
  • Log process order confirmations, inventory documents, and goods receipts into SAP
  • Learn to the process to set up, pour, package, and load BUR asphalt
  • Load bulk asphalt materials
  • Unload asphalt raw materials via truck and rail car
  • Understand and utilize facility loss prevention program, including the ability to measure tank LEL’s, O2 levels, CO levels, toxicity, etc.
  • Operate TOX and #2 preheater in accordance with all regulations
  • Monitor and restrict access to the facility
  • Maintain good housekeeping of work area
  • Any other task as directed by the Plant Leader

 

 

TPM

 

  • Participation on a TPM team
  • Engage on pillar team activities
  • Perform all TPM duties necessary to ensure the safety of the plant and drive to successful attainment of zero losses, zero defects, and zero injuries

 

Safety

 

  • Complete annual safety training
  • Comply with all environmental compliance policies and programs
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly environmental inspections
  • Fix and report all unsafe work conditions
  • Notify Plant Leader in the case of any accident, near miss, or on-the-job injury

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to think under pressure and make quick decisions
  • Competent in basic math and tape measure skills
  • Meets team expectations such as reliability, teamwork, and process improvement
  • Ability to obtain Special level boiler license within 60 days in the role is required
  • Motivation to complete on the job training and reach Asphalt Operator status within 14 months of starting this role

 

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

 

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and SAP)

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One year manufacturing experience with forklift preferred
  • Asphalt production experience preferred

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Work up to 12 hours in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
  • Walk/stand on concrete floor, as required during shift work lasting 8-12 hours
  • Routinely ascend and descend stairs and ladders.
  • Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary for task
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary
