SUMMARY
The Plant Buyer is responsible for ensuring the procurement of goods and services is properly authorized, approved, and competitively priced. This role involves managing the spare parts inventory, sourcing and implementing division sourcing policies and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate SAP purchasing data to minimize errors.
  • Ensure timely payment to vendors by reviewing payables, kickouts daily and resolving issues weekly.
  • Manage SAP material codes by following procedures for adding, deleting, extending, or correcting data.
  • Review MRP list daily and clear all past-due exception messages.
  • Convert purchase requisitions daily and create purchase orders for plant purchases.
  • Consult with Maintenance Leader and Controller on stocking decisions.
  • Monitor spare parts criticality and slow-moving obsolete inventory to minimize losses.
  • Coordinate the return of duplicate orders or incorrect parts to vendors.
  • Analyze root causes of payables issues to prevent recurrence.
  • Review and investigate GRNI, Open PO, and Kickouts reports monthly for the Plant Controller.
  • Create and maintain Info Records and Source Lists as needed.
  • Ensure the use of National Account Vendors for assigned purchases and manage plant scorecard.
  • Act as Vendor Number Administrator and Material Master Code Administrator.
  • Develop reports to analyze costs, usage, and trends.
  • Participate in the bid process for plant projects.
  • Handle special projects as requested.
  • Participate in safety and housekeeping programs.
  • Implement record retention procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Spare Parts Coordinator to ensure the storeroom meets maintenance department needs.
  • Manage inventory levels to improve plant cash flow and working capital.
  • Develop an effective inventory management system.
  • Maintain accurate SAP Material Master data to avoid over-ordering or stocking out.
  • Ensure the plant office has necessary supplies and materials.
  • Ensure sourcing processes comply with controls policies and guidelines.
  • Implement changes per Reliability Pyramid.
  • Act as a positive spokesperson and lead plant-wide changes.
  • Participate in teams to develop and implement procurement and inventory management solutions.
  • Act as a liaison between operations finance, production, and maintenance teams.
  • Use forklift and other material handling machinery.
  • Engage in the plant's Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) efforts.
  • Follow the company waste management program.
  • Comply with all plant safety regulations and corporate policies.
  • Maintain regular onsite attendance.

Education and/or Experience:

  • 4-Year College Degree preferred.
  • Previous Buyer experience preferred.

Essential Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • Ability to squat, bend, and twist freely.
  • Exposure to temperature extremes and noise levels.
  • Repetitive movements and handling of objects, tools, or controls.
