Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the reliability performance, repair and maintenance of mechanical devices in the plant, including pneumatic and hydraulic devices. In addition, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairs and maintenance on electrical devices consistent with their training as described in more detail below. The employee acts as a process expert for this multi-craft job dealing with mechanical and electrical responsibilities. This includes reacting to process and equipment issues, preventive and predictive maintenance, as well as elimination of special cause variation while driving safety & quality and optimizing plant efficiency.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilizes machines, equipment and measuring instruments to perform tasks including, but not limited to, precision alignment, predictive maintenance, balancing, welding, pipe fitting, equipment repair
- Utilizes multi-functional mechanic and basic electrical knowledge to preserve and optimize plant assets and to meet the needs of manufacturing
- Provides support and leadership to other craft and non-craft employees in the performance of maintenance tasks
- Cooperates with others, plans and perform operational maintenance, including lubrication, to machinery and equipment associated with plant operations
- Performs the job of trainer for trainee and other craft personnel as related to craft work
- Acts as a liaison to management and suppliers
- Assists with the developmental and/or experimental projects
- Utilizes computer expertise to complete records and reports and manage data (includes SAP, work orders, inventory, to develop failure & trend reporting(M3), checklists, etc.)
- Utilizes basic carpentry skills as needed for the position
- Utilizes forklift, cranes, and other related mobile equipment, license obtained where necessary
- Develops & maintains skills and knowledge of the job
- Works from information obtained from simple or complex diagrams, engineering drawings, sketches, equipment manuals, and written or verbal instructions needed to perform assigned duties
- Make minor electrical repairs of shop equipment within a mechanical workshop, including:
- Shop tools, power tool cords, extension cords, welding equipment cables, portable lighting, lathes, milling machines, band saws, etc.
- Make process equipment mechanical repairs where:
- Gearbox replacement is necessary, disconnecting and re-connecting motor leads. Example: A gearbox with a C-face mounted motor needs repair or replacement and it is found that the motor shaft keyway is defective. The Maintenance Technician will be expected to carry out the motor replacement and replace any defective wiring or flexible conduit for the motor in question.
- Circuit or logic modifications through the MOC process
- Power distribution system maintenance switchgear, transformers, medium voltage motor starters, motor control center (MCC) structures (main breaker & bus), interlocked armor cables, large circuit breakers, main disconnects, furnace power regulators, furnace firing transformers, 480/270-volt lighting distribution panels, etc.
- Conduit, wiring, or electrical equipment installation
- Removal of motor starter modules from an energized MCC
- Instrumentation Maintenance such as thermocouples, pressure transmitters, process controllers, high-temperature limit controllers, level transmitters, digital displays, digital tachometers, bar code scanners, pull cameras, pressure switches, analog circuits, analog feedback systems, digital feedback systems, video operator interface panels, recorders, differential pressure transmitters, hot slug detectors, video cameras, thickness gauges, laser devices, furnace electrode monitoring equipment, bushing controllers, alarm panels, displacement gauges
- Variable speed motor drive electronics such as used in Line Drive, Belt Rollup Drives, Stretch Wrap tension drives, fiberizer drives, over wrap decline conveyor, raw material unloading screw, exhaust fan drives, batch charger screw drives, and auto bagger feed conveyor drives
- Repair or replacement of High-Bay lighting fixtures, outdoor road lighting, main office lighting
- Repair, replacement, or troubleshooting on or in PLCs (programmable logic controllers), operator interface panels, communications highways, input/output modules, central processors, power supplies, programs, programming equipment, etc.
- Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by the planner
- Work with plant leadership team to communicate issues and/or enhancement
- Regularly inspect the work area to ensure all safety policies and practices are followed and a high degree of industrial housekeeping is always maintained
- Protect physical assets of the plant and maintain company standards of environmental control.
- Actively participate in work teams and committees that are established to increase the plant’s performance
- Participate in and completes special projects as assigned
- Ensure compliance with respiratory protection policy
- Provides coverage for team members and attends DMS meetings
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must show proof of authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must be 18 years or older
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 1 – 3 years maintenance manufacturing experience

- Must be able to read, write, and speak English

- Must have the ability to multi-task
- Must have strong internal and external customer service skills

- Must have the ability to do intermediate mathematical calculations
- Must have PC operational skills
- Must have the skill level and experience of a Maintenance Technician
- Must be able to secure and maintain forklift driver’s license
