SUMMARY:

This position is Responsible for the Safe completion of work in the most efficient manner in their area of responsibility.  This position performs the duties of a painter in the completion of an assignment under the authority of the area Maintenance Leader.  The painter group leader will be responsible for painting a variety of industrial surfaces, including equipment, machinery, walls, floors, ceilings, and other structures. They will also be responsible for performing minor repairs or maintenance on the surfaces they paint.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all plant rules and safety regulations.
  • Ensures all employees in the area of responsibility follow the plant safety policies.
  • Actively leads Pre-Task Planning assessments by ensuring they are completed prior to doing any and all maintenance work in the area of Responsibilities.
  • Identifies and controls hazards in the area.
  • Ensures >95% of safety requests for the area of responsibilities are completed in less than 30 days.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces prior to painting
  • Select appropriate tools and materials for each job
  • Apply paint, varnish, and other finishes to surfaces
  • Perform minor repairs or maintenance on surfaces
  • Maintain equipment and work area
  • Assist in the implementation of Operator Standard Work.
  • Update all the area PM’s as needed for Frequency, content or creating new PM’s as needed.
  • Shows a high degree of initiative in service and painting work.
  • Leads the execution and completion of all planned and unplanned painting work.  This includes documentation of hours and work order completion within SAP and updating the daily schedule with status and schedule breakers.
  • Communicates with other area employees on a daily basis to identify and resolve issues that arise.
  • Attends all the necessary communication meetings and discussions, i.e. area huddles, cleanout planning, project meetings, rebuild meetings, etc.
  • Ensures that all necessary information is entered into SAP as required (works with the shift leader to ensure notifications are being writing by operations for all requests).  Work orders are entered and used for all work that requires more than 15 minutes to complete; including the correct status, time confirmed by the person performing the work, activity reports are entered by each person scheduled work, orders are closed upon completion, etc.
  • Completes required reports or records such as maintenance orders and notifications, PM’s, purchase requisitions.  MCMP’s & TECO’s Orders, this can be a shared practice with your planner and needs to be worked out amongst each area team.
  • Performs all other duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by the area Maintenance Leader.

  • Must possess computer and control system experience and abilities (SAP, Email, IPOP, IP21, etc)

  • Must be motivated to safely achieve goals and be able to work independently
  • Must have the ability to do basic mathematical calculations

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

The employee should have the following:

  • Ability to navigate SAP, identify parts, write a notification, search backlogs, search PM’s, complete activity reports, time confirmation, order completion, etc
  • Thorough understanding of RWP – be able to describe how it works, roles and responsibilities, current barriers and recommendations for improvement, etc
  • Strong Job Performance
  • Proven ability to effectively lead people
  • Meets and remains compliant with all safety and health assessment qualifications for the position, i.e. respirator qualified,  ability to climb ladders, etc
  • Able to work overtime during breakdowns situations, weekends, OCO’s, etc
  • 2+ years of experience as an industrial painter
  • Knowledge of painting techniques and tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication skills

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires:

  • Regular attendance on site and the ability to work varying or rotation shifts
  • Wearing respirator protection – occasionally
  • Exposure to hot/cold temperatures – continuously

  • Lifting/carrying/moving up to 50 pounds
