PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Newark Wool Plant Process Engineer will ensure that all manufacturing processes are set up to provide stable operations and deliver consistency to meet the customers’ exact requirements. They will provide technical leadership to the plant to safely improve efficiencies, improve product quality, increase capacity, reduce costs, and assure environmental compliance. This position will focus on initiating and implementing technical improvements, preventing, and resolving technical problems, and assessing the capabilities of the processes. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate successful leadership experiences and will have the opportunity in this role to continue to develop leadership skills and experience. The PE shares best practices with Insulation COE and other plants and implements best practice process improvements. This role needs to be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including customers and suppliers.

Span of Control: All manufacturing processes and products of assigned plant.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 Living the Safety Stand and adhering to the employee safety responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment and build a culture where safety is a priority. 
  • Ensure a clear and effective measurement system is followed and used to drive results; reward and celebrate safe behavior and achievements; ensure accountability.
  • Ensure that all control plans, work instructions, and other procedures related to the technical operation of the production lines are in place.
  • Lead and support safety initiatives and processes to drive towards zero safety incidents.

  

Driving Technical, Process, and Quality Improvements

  • Identify and lead new process improvements.
  • Effectively communicate objectives holding people accountable to deliver results.
  • Network/partner with peers to operate with zero environmental non-conformities maintaining compliance to applicable company, government, and regulatory policies.
  • Administer and ensure strict adherence to business quality program, resulting in consistent and high product quality to customers.
  • Actively drive understanding of customer requirements and the relationship to plant process variables to ensure products always meet the customer FFU.
  • Ensure that all customer complaints are recorded, communicated plant wide, and thoroughly investigated with corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop, evaluate, improve, and document manufacturing processes/controls.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and meet key milestones, to work and communicate effectively with people at all levels within the organization and to technically contribute to the development of the process solutions.
  • Apply statistical methods/data analytics to estimate future manufacturing requirements.
  • Utilize capital execution from inception to completion for process/technical improvements.
  • Understand current manufacturing process capability, drives to reduce variation, and ensures product quality and consistency to improve the overall customer experience.
  • Ensures nonconforming products are not shipped to our customers.
  • Act as primary plant contact with the Product & Process Innovation Teams to implement development improvements.
  • Facilitate quality related training with Quality Manager (includes understanding customer requirements translated to process variables, SPC, procedures and practices, ISO management systems) for all employees in the plant.
  • Actively participate in the quality network and be a conduit for best practice sharing in the plant with respect to product quality and service.

 

Executing Strategy across the plant and organization

  • Set clear and measurable expectations, in line with plant goals; proactively analyzes and manages all relative performance metrics.
  • Plan, promote and organize training activities to constantly elevate the capabilities of our employees.
  • Maintain documentation, tracking, counseling, and executing coaching and corrective action when performance issues occur.
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders to identify and address process improvement opportunities to eliminate waste, enhance safety, reduce cost, increase capacity and productivity, and improve the product.
  • Use various TPM tools to drive improved productivity and plant performance and build a TPM culture.
  • Participate in FI & QM Pillar and support additional TPM activities across the site; including AM expansion and activities.
  • Create an environment where all employees are engaged, empowered, and focused on serving our customers.
  • Develop relationships with customers and understand what it takes to ensure OC manufactures products that they define as high quality and participate in developing solutions for serving our customers.
  • Ensure standard processes are defined and in place that reliably provide product meeting customer performance and scheduled expectations.
  • Live our Talent Stand through ongoing mentoring of Manufacturing Engineers (MEs) and Manufacturing Leadership Program (MLP) participants and interns.
  • Act as Development Coach for MLPs and Interns, creating the appropriate developmental experience and assuring the program outcome is achieved.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • A minimum of 4 years progressive technical experience in a manufacturing environment, fiberglass process experience preferred.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • TPM experience; FI, QM, AM
  • Willingness to relocate for future growth opportunities.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt and/or Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Experience driving change management initiatives.
  • Development and leadership of process improvement plans.
  • Training and development of junior engineers, operators, and other staff members.
  • Experience in a union environment.

  • Travel ~10% for development/process events, customer visits, and plant support.
