What your day in this role might involve at OC- Ocala FL:
The primary role of the EHS Specialist is to build a plant and/or department culture with an unconditional stance on safety. The EHS Specialist will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of critical safety, health, and Environmental processes/programs/procedures to achieve a zero-injury environment. The successful candidate will provide leadership and apply technical abilities to engage employees at all levels of the organization to develop and sustain world-classsafety and environmental process. This position reports to the EHS Leader.

 

Job Responsibilities
The EHS Specialist will assist in establishing, implementing, and maintaining sound EHS focused goals at the personal and facility level that align with Owens Corning divisional and corporate goals.These goals will reflect a total commitment to developing a strong safety culture, achieving a world-class safety process and the environmentally responsible operation of the facility.

 

The Plant EHS Specialist will be progressively responsible for the following:

  • Develop, implement and/or evaluate EHS plans and programs to ensure a solid foundation ofsafety and environmental awareness is communicated within the facility.
  • Translates safety and health strategies into results.
  • Maintain, transform and update EHS data into information (charts, and graphs) and metrics.
  • Develop, implement, deliver, maintain, and improve EHS related training programs in a coordinated effort with NLT, EHS Leader and appropriate plant personnel.
  • Implement and maintain all EHS training in the approved data base. Maintain training documentation as required by corporate and federal/state standards.
  • Conduct, identify and document Hazard Analysis process, Safe Behavior Observations, facility audits, etc.
  • Assist in recordable injury, fi rst-aid, and near-miss investigations and in the development and implementation of improvement action plans through completion of “Learning from Incident”reports.
  • Improve the EHS culture through educating employees on EHS standards and procedures
  • Deliver effective initial and periodic EHS training.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) within the EHSPillar with strong support of all pillars; serve as Vice Pillar Leader
  •  Empower employees to prevent, stop and correct unsafe working conditions
  • Be present in the manufacturing operation and lead “Making Safety Personal” and “Keep it Fresh”initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties and functions related to sustaining the Environmental, Health andSafety programs as directed by the EHS Leader.
  • Co-Lead Health and Wellness Plant/Corporate initiatives with HR Team
  • Work towards HRC Trainer certification

 

What makes a successful OC OCALA FL team member:
Must haves include…

  • Bachelor’s degree in any fi eld related to EH&S, such as industrial hygiene, engineering, science, or equivalent degree
  • 2+ years of experience leading EHS efforts in an industrial manufacturing setting
  • Demonstrate sound leadership on the job through safety performance, communication skills and teamwork
  • Knowledge in the implementation of OSHA, EPA, and other general industry EHS standards
  • Comfortable in identifi cation and coaching of unsafe acts or behaviors at all employee levels
  • Understands development needs within the Owens Corning EHS body of knowledge and makes improvement plans to increase technical abilities.
  • Ability to promote a team environment and must be able to initiate, lead and drive cross-functional team projects to successful completion
  • Energetic, resourceful, with a strong service orientation and positive can-do attitude. Fully committed to the EHS mission and vision.
  • Continuous Improvement Leader. Never satisfied with the status quo, continually striving for excellence and efficiency.
  • Enhance the vision to improve performance, effi ciency, and safe practices by motivating employees to achieve EHS goals
  • Able to recognize hazards and associated risks that lead to the development of practical mitigation strategies.
  • Basic computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team matrix environment

 

Preferred, not required, experience includes:

  • Bilingual (English & Spanish)
  • ASP certification preferred, not required.
  • Working in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • Advanced computer skills (Excel pivot tables/formula writing; PowerPoint)
  • Writing and maintaining standard operating procedures
  • Willing to learn new controls technologies and systems as required throughout plant

 

Essential physical requirements specific to our work environment, including being able to:

  • Work up to (8) hours in non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work after business hours and be on call as necessary
  • Safeguard self and others with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
    • Steel-toed shoes
    • Eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask)
    • Hearing protection as necessary for tasks
