PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Shift Technical Specialist is a critical representative that roofing products conform to fit, form, and function. This position will perform quality testing for incoming materials and finished goods, as well as support quality assurance efforts alongside the production line(s).
The Shift Technical Specialist is a key contributor to the continuous improvements of critical plant performance metrics in the areas of safety, productivity, cost, quality, and sustainability. This role is essential to the successful operations of the Savannah site. The Shift Technical Specialist is an hourly position reporting to the Technical Leader with a dotted line to the Daylight Quality Technician.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Product & Process Quality Control
- Perform routine in‑process and finished product inspections to ensure roofing products meet internal specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards
- Conduct quality checks on raw materials such as asphalt, granules, fiberglass mat, adhesives, and packaging materials
- Monitor production processes to detect quality deviations, defects, or trends and promptly escalate concerns to production and quality leadership
- Testing & Measurement
- Perform routine and assigned laboratory and floor testing, including physical property tests, visual inspections, dimensional checks, and performance testing as required by product specifications
- Utilize and maintain measurement and test equipment such as calipers, scales, gauges, tear testers, and ovens, ensuring proper calibration and documentation
- Accurately record test results and validate data for compliance and traceability
- Documentation & Reporting
- Complete quality inspection reports, test logs, non‑conformance reports, and certificates of analysis in a clear and timely manner
- Maintain accurate quality records in accordance with company procedures, audit requirements, and regulatory expectations
- Generate charts, summaries, and trend analyses to support quality reviews and continuous improvement efforts
- Non‑Conformance & Problem Solving
- Identify, document, and assist with the investigation of non‑conforming products during production or final inspection
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions in collaboration with production, maintenance, and engineering teams
- Assist in evaluating customer complaints or field issues related to product quality when required
- Production Support & Collaboration
- Work closely with operators, supervisors, and engineers to resolve quality issues without disrupting production flow
- Provide real‑time feedback to production teams on quality performance and specification compliance
- Assist in training production personnel on quality standards, inspection methods, and defect awareness
- Quality Systems & Compliance
- Support and maintain compliance with corporate quality management systems, including audits and corrective action tracking where applicable
- Participate in internal audits, process audits, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects and improving consistency
- Ensure quality activities are performed in accordance with safety, environmental, and housekeeping requirements
- Develop and maintain a “body of knowledge” for raw materials and finished goods
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Two or more years of manufacturing experience strongly preferred
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US
- Must remain drug and alcohol free

- Must maintain schedule flexibility to ensure smooth production
- Must be able to work shifts up to 12 hours in duration
- Must operate necessary software to successfully perform job responsibilities
- Must be able to think and work under pressure, and analyze information to identify solutions
- Must have and execute with a sense of urgency
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED TRAINING
- All annual safety and role-specific training, as required by the nature of this position
