PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

The Maintenance Reliability Engineer demonstrates teamwork and commitment to the success of Owens Corning.  This role will be responsible for the reliability and performance of critical equipment. He/she will lead projects to improve the area equipment and asset management. He/she focus on the equipment and systems, ensuring they operate in optimal and sustainable conditions. This role will lead the predictive maintenance program and partner with area owners to ensure equipment reliability, and live a culture of ZERO accidents, ZERO defects, ZERO losses. This person will lead a 24/7/365 maintenance execution to ensure safe, effective, efficient, continuous plant operation through proactive maintenance and reliability of the facility and equipment. The strategic responsibilities of the Maintenance Reliability Engineer require a thorough understanding of the business environment, the capability of plant assets, and sustaining the health of those assets. They must also have a deep understanding of various maintenance strategies, failure curves, predictive technologies, etc.

Span of Control:  Direct reports include approximately 17 Electromechanics

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Drive a zero environmental, health, and safety incident culture, support and participate in incident investigations to determine root cause, identify preventive actions, and correct unsafe conditions and acts immediately.
  • Communicate effectively with all environmental, health, and safety, accounting, people, quality, process, and equipment issues.
  • Lead Electromechanics by developing personal and working relationships, listening to new ideas and suggestions, promoting participation in decisions and activities.
  • Conduct routine audits of EHS adherence, completeness, work order accuracy, time allotment, housekeeping, etc.
  • Work with Maintenance Planner(s) to develop weekly schedules for 100% available Electromechanic time and complete/close work orders.
  • Develop, schedule, and provide training for the Electromechanics to ensure specialty knowledge is at least two deep and adheres to regulatory requirements.
  • Establish annual performance objectives and reviews for direct reports.
  • Utilize a maintenance escalation chain to minimize response times.
  • Enter time in the payroll system as required, and manage overtime, vacations, and shift relief.
  • Assist in staffing maintenance personnel.
  • Work with Predictive assets to eliminate failures that can be identified through industry best practices.
  • Support TPM activities by optimizing PM’s and looking for AM inspection opportunities on critical equipment.
  • Engineer solutions to repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect the plant (operation, safety, quality) by methodical problem-solving techniques (BDA, RCA, A3, 8D etc.)
  • Support craftsmen after hours on issues that go beyond their skill capabilities.
  • Facilitate training as needed and update training skills matrix.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years Maintenance experience in manufacturing environment
  • Experience in defining maintenance plans, defining maintenance strategies, defining spare part needs, creating maintenance training, root cause analysis, etc.
  • 5+ years industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience with predictive tools such as thermography, ultrasonics, vibration, oil analysis, etc.
  • Bachelors Degree in engineering field strongly preferred

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • People leadership
  • Fiberglass or paper manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Contractor management to perform project and maintenance activities
  • Work and personnel scheduling and planning
  • Strong electrical, PLC and controls preferred
  • Very high mechanical aptitude
  • Working in a CMMS environment; SAP preferred

  • Maintenance knowledge, skills, and abilities in electrical and mechanical disciplines
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling knowledge to execute planned work and record unplanned work
  • Maintenance spare part knowledge to establish stocking levels and sourcing strategies
  • Maintenance metrics knowledge to monitor, optimize and drive continuous improvement
  • Predictive maintenance technologies knowledge and applications
  • Highly developed human relation skills to lead, direct, motivate and develop personnel
  • Effective communication skills to work with all levels of the plant organization, contractors, and vendors
  • Proficient computer skills to store, retrieve and analyze data in OC, Microsoft Office, and SAP applications
  • Continuous improvement skills that achieve sustaining successes
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities with large industrial equipment
  • Quick decision-making ability to overcome upset situations
