5:30AM-4PM Monday-Thursday or 7:30AM-4PM Monday-Friday, OT as needed

What your day in this role might involve at OC Stokesdale:

The Tool Room Machinist role is vital to the wood manufacturing processes across the Stokesdale and Colfax Rough Mill operations.  The primary responsibilities are the sharpening, balance, and maintenance of all wood cutting knives, cutter heads, and saw blades for both operations.  The work is accomplished in our tool rooms using precision grinding equipment, measurement tools, and cleaning washers.  Engagement with the production process leaders and supporting engineering staff is required to align work activity with business priorities.

• Demonstrate a commitment to Owens Corning’s Safer Together Safety Identity by making Safety a priority in every activity
• Maintain readiness of all knife heads by sharpening blades to profile specifications, balancing each head, signing off, and loading unique head dimensions into the system
• Maintain Finger-Joint heads for both sites following all established procedures including posting and balancing procedures.
• Maintain Insert Spiral Cutterheads
• Maintain tool room equipment, cleanliness, and readiness in 5S condition at all times
• Service Finishing End work center tooling including tenons, haunch assemblies, insert routers, and saw blades.
• Maintain Tooling inventory for all plant work centers
• Collaborate with Engineering, Production Leaders, and Tooling Vendors to maintain and improve product tooling designs and supply.

What makes a successful OC Stokesdale team member:

• Toolmaking experience preferred, Journeyman Certification especially
• Knowledge and experience of operating grinding equipment
• Knowledge of wood moulding processes a plus
• Solid in basic math skills
• Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers
• Comfortable with computer use and data entry
• Good communication skills

There are some essential physical requirements specific to our work environment, including being able to:

• Repetitive hand, wrist, and arm motions
• Normal and/or corrected hearing and vision with good hand eye coordination involving walking, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing stairs, and lifting objects
• Lift at least 35 lbs

• Exposure to normal factory environment: dust, heat, and noise. Candidate must be able to withstand heat more than 95 degrees.
