Job Title:                      Sr. Environmental, Health and Safety Lead

Summary:

Sr. EHS Leader leads the safety, health and environmental functions at the Tallmadge Plant. The successful candidate in this role works on implementation of critical processes, programs, and procedures to achieve goals, objectives, and continuous improvement related to environment, health, and safety. The EHS Leader must spend significant time on the plant floor, engaging and coaching employees and contractors on a daily basis. As an integral part of the plant leadership team, the EHS Leader will provide information and guidance for activities relating to the site-wide safety, health and environmental operating objectives. The position acts as the subject matter expert in the plant and is accountable for building capability to ensure a plant wide safety culture.

 

  • Span of Control: Primary responsibility is Plant wide; will also be leveraged to provide support across the division (4 other plants) and the broader Insulation business as needed.
  • Direct Reports: 2 direct reports (EHS Coordinator and EHSLP)

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety and Health:

  • Effectively communicate Owens Corning’s stand on safety to ensure employees believe in and behave in a manner that supports our stand that all accidents are preventable, safety is everyone’s responsibility, and that working safely is a condition of employment at Owens Corning.
  • Lead and support safety and health initiatives and processes to drive towards an injury free culture.
  • Educate team members on safe operations of new processes or modifications.
  • Incorporate safety stands and safe improvements into all people-related initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of all critical EH&S processes, programs, and procedures including those related to Process Safety Management (PSM) & Risk Management Plan (RMP)
  • Responsible for leading risk reduction initiatives and SIF Prevention Team improvements
  • Sets and accomplishes critical metrics regularly to ensure continuous improvement in the processes that lead to a 100% engaged safety culture at the plant.
  • Support and drive Health and Wellness initiatives across the plant

 

Environmental:

  • Lead and support environmental initiatives and process to drive towards zero NOVs.
  • Manage all aspects of the plant: hazardous, solid and universal waste within all Federal, State and Local guidelines.  
  • Environmental reporting including Tier II, Annual Emissions, GHG, Sustainability reporting, stormwater, waste reporting, SPCC and other current or pending regulatory requirements.
  • Sets and accomplishes critical environmental metrics regularly to ensure continuous improvement in the processes that lead to a 100% engaged culture on the floor.
  • Prioritize and advocate capital/resource requests, and advise the leadership team on all aspects of environmental requirements and responsibilities. 
  • Interact with outside consultants on regulatory and permitting changes.

 

Leadership:

  • Maintain a leadership presence on the plant floor, influence employee and leadership behaviors, and fully engage employees in the safety process.
  • Enroll and engage the entire workforce to build a powerful safety culture.
  • Advise and guide the Natural Leadership Team (NLT) in developing and implementing a risk-ranked strategic plan, prioritize and advocate capital/resource requests, and advise the leadership team on all aspects of environmental requirements and responsibilities.
  • Grow and develop the safety teams within the workforce.
  • Grow and develop EHS Coordinator and EHSLP
  • Adhere to all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards
  • Complete all required safety training

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety related discipline required
  • Demonstrated success coaching and leading teams in a high employee empowerment culture, while training and developing technical skills in others.
  • Ability to adapt and contribute to plant success in multiple areas (Operations, Talent Development, Project Leadership, TPM)

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) qualification preferred
  • Leading change management efforts
  • Managing and delivering results through projects and initiatives.
  • Experience utilizing computer programs and Microsoft Office products.
  • RCRA and Waste Management Experience Preferred
