JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

FMLA Program Administration and Compliance

  • Develop and implement company policies and procedures related to FMLA compliance, ensuring they align with the law and address the specific needs of the organization.
  • Review and evaluate employee requests for FMLA leave to determine eligibility based on the prescribed criteria, communicate decisions to employees, and provide guidance on next steps.
  • Manage the overall administration of FMLA leaves, including coordinating leave requests, tracking leave time, and ensuring compliance with documentation requirements.
  • Collaborate with HR personnel and supervisors to ensure smooth leave management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FMLA regulations and ensuring the organization's practices remain compliant. Conducting regular audits to monitor adherence to FMLA policies and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to FMLA leaves, including leave requests, certifications, approvals, and return-to-work documentation.
  • Generate reports and analyze leave data to identify trends and patterns.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the organization's FMLA program and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to streamline processes, increase efficiency, and enhance the employee experience.

 

Employee Education & Experience

  • Conduct training sessions or workshops to educate employees about their rights and responsibilities under the FMLA including eligibility requirements, leave duration, documentation processes, and any other relevant details.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees seeking information or assistance regarding their FMLA rights.
  • Address employee concerns, resolve conflicts, and provide guidance throughout the leave process.

 

Licensing, Credentialing and Development

  • Acquire and maintain FMLA Specialist Certification.
  • Keep abreast of state and federal leave laws and regulations.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary continuing education credit hours and training as required by state and certifying agencies.
  • Participate in health conferences/meetings as needed for personal development and advancement.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of disability laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
  • Ability to travel 10-20%

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of human resources experience.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.
  • Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration.
  • Working knowledge of Medicare, SSDI, rehabilitation, disability, medical and workers’ compensation benefits.
  • Bilingual capability.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with employees and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of professional standards.
  • Ability to provide education and communication on employee benefit plans.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple cases and tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems.
