PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

As the IT and OT convergence and Digital Manufacturing strategy continues, Owens Corning is proving out and adopting technology to help accelerate our digital transformation. The OT Network Engineer is a key role and is accountable for design, consultation, deployment, standardization, and support of all Manufacturing OT Network Systems at Owens Corning.

 

Aligned with OC's Manufacturing Security and Advanced Manufacturing initiatives and strategies, the Manufacturing OT Network Engineer will drive the convergence of Information Technology and Operational Technology by partnering with Advanced Manufacturing, peers, senior Global Information Services (GIS) security, and business leaders to ensure secure implementation of architecture and emerging industry technologies. Primary responsibilities of this role are to provide consultative guidance, develop actionable recommendations, promote, deliver, and maintain OC’s manufacturing OT network infrastructure across our sites globally.

The incumbent will work closely with other GIS teams, key suppliers, and business partner and build strong relationships and deliver platform innovation that facilitates network solution architecture and technology adoption, enabling successful company operations globally.  The incumbent’s technical leadership drives key programs, projects, and service experience excellence thereby ensuring a reliable and high performing environment for the business.

Span of Control:                No direct reports; responsible for coordinating the work of third-party resources, and internal project teams

Executing Strategy

Manufacturing OT Network Platform Architecture

Accountable for the design, consultation, deployment, standardization, and support of all Manufacturing OT Network Systems at Owens Corning from conceptualization of technology capabilities, experimentation through proof-of-concepts, and roll out through pilots that complement the product release roadmap.

  • Responsible for partnering with key stakeholders for creating and managing global standards related to network design, equipment, cabling, OT systems, configuration, and communication protocol
  • Builds innovative concepts to improve monitoring of OT network environment & industrial control networks
  • Owns the blueprint & architecture design concepts of the future manufacturing network design with digital & network resiliency as a priority
  • Partners with Information Security to ensure architecture is secure by design
  • Work with manufacturing application and platform owners to define OT Network architecture and infrastructure requirements and support processes
  • Define playbooks for partners to respond to alerts from monitoring systems and platforms to address OT network issues and being a champion for the Root Cause Analysis & Root Cause Fix processes for continuous improvement
  • Partner with key stakeholders on life-cycle management of manufacturing infrastructure to mitigate risks
  • Develop and maintain a strong level of technical knowledge and expertise along with external perspective on all functionalities of the platforms globally.
  • Present new initiatives to architecture and project governance boards which include technical designs, cost models, support plans, and relevant information to successfully move initiatives forward.
  • Increase awareness of platform performance by capturing and highlighting performance data using modern visibility toolsets; bring an analytical capability and continuous improvement mindset.
  • In collaboration with the broader architecture community, establish and maintain a clear short and long-term roadmap for systems and platforms.
  • Accountable for standards, processes, and procedures, documentation, and compliance that enable the reliability, security, and performance of the platform globally.
  • Perform OT Network assessments, identify gaps in existing network architecture, and recommend changes or improvements
  • Manages and develops the overall roadmaps and strategy for Owens Corning’s backup and disaster recovery applications across our landscape
  • Partner with the Global Infrastructure Organization (GIO) to align the Operational Technology (OT) roadmap with Information Technology (IT) strategies, ensuring seamless integration and collaborative troubleshooting.  

 

Support Operations, and Network/Security Management

Provide consultative guidance, develop actionable recommendations, promote, deliver, and maintain OC’s manufacturing OT network infrastructure across our sites globally.

  • Analyze, review and oversee implementation of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Network designs for security defects and provide recommendations to address defects
  • Work with Capital Delivery & Regional Engineering teams and infrastructure partners to support large scale projects
  • Successfully build a support model & transition the management of OT Network systems, infrastructure, and industrial control system solutions to applicable support teams
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Owens Corning specific processes and operations globally while becoming an invaluable partner to the organization.
  • Influence and recommend architecture technology solutions and services that solve for project and program objectives and goals.
  • Socialize, influence, and motivate groups across GIS and the business about the importance of training for the proper and efficient usage of technologies and software platforms.
  • Prepare project documentation including network diagrams, configurations, and support procedures
  • Assists with knowledge transfer and best practices to all stakeholders across manufacturing

 

Business Leadership & Vendor Management

Partner with business stakeholders, GIS colleagues, and external vendors to influence and execute the Manufacturing OT capability roadmap.

  • Develops strong partnerships with key stakeholders and process owners to thoroughly understand processes and business goals.
  • Act as an OT Network architecture, design, and industry standard advisor to GIS and the business along with tracking ongoing projects, integrations, deployments and technical guidance of innovative technologies
  • Be the OT Network subject matter expert for projects on an as-needed basis to provide a viewpoint on risk and risk mitigations
  • Continuously stay informed and educated on product and implementation providers to influence design considerations and platform standards to meet the needs of the business.
  • Participates in RFPs, RFIs, and partner vendor selection with leadership and sourcing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineer, or equivalent
  • 7-10 years of information technology experience; 8+ years of experience with information security technology and/or industrial control systems preferred.
  • Proven project management theory, knowledge, skills, tools and techniques

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in large improvement and/or new technology implementation
  • Working knowledge of industrial technology standard enterprise reference architecture, applications, control networks, and how they integrate into enterprise Information Technology
  • Core knowledge of Cisco IOS, Stratix switch configuration and other OT switch operating systems
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP and OT network protocols
  • A solid understanding of both the network and system integration with the ability to troubleshoot when issues arise
  • Knowledge of Purdue model, OSI model, ISO, ISA, NIST, ISO 27001 and IEC standards as applied to security
  • Acumen in Information Technology; networks, switches, routers, Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Industry Control network design and protocols, Internet of things (IoT), and other Industry 4.0 technologies
  • Understanding and knowledge of industry best practices in control network architecture, logical/physical segmentation of control networks, and working knowledge of industrial networking equipment
  • Experience in design, implementation, and operation of network, systems and industrial control environments, manufacturing, and/or ancillary systems
