PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Product Manager is responsible for leading product strategy, execution, and performance across building industry market segments and customers. The role drives channel-specific product planning, innovation, and lifecycle management to support growth, differentiation, and operational excellence in retail or wholesale environments.
The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of the building materials industry, applies a market-back lens to identify opportunities throughout the value chain, possesses technical product knowledge, and can lead cross-functional teams.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Strategy and Lifecycle Management
- Own the Doors product portfolio across retail or wholesale distribution channels.
- Develop and execute channel-specific product strategies, including new product introductions, line refreshes, and discontinuations for selected product categories.
- Align product plans with brand positioning, customer needs, and the competitive landscape to increase consumer willingness to pay and support margin-accretive growth.
Channel Execution
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Operations to deliver compelling assortments that enhance the shopper and customer journey, drive sales, and improve mix.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure product setup, data accuracy, and content delivery across retail or wholesale distribution systems.
- Monitor performance metrics and drive actions to improve sales and margins.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, and Customer Service to ensure product readiness and support.
- Work closely with Marketing to develop product positioning, messaging, packaging, signage, and promotional materials tailored to customer needs.
- Serve as the voice of the customer in product development and commercialization processes.
Market and Customer Insights
- Analyze market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive activity to inform product decisions.
- Conduct field visits, customer interviews, and performance reviews to identify opportunities and gaps.
- Translate insights into actionable product enhancements and channel strategies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in product management within building materials or home improvement retail.
- Proven success managing product lifecycles.
- Strong analytical, project management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel as needed for customer meetings, trade shows, manufacturing locations, and field visits.
Preferred Experience
- Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field.
- Experience with retail and/or wholesale building products distribution.
- Technical product knowledge within the building materials industry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Channel knowledge: Deep understanding of retail and/or wholesale distribution operations, systems, and customer base.
- Product management: Experience managing product portfolios, product launches, and lifecycle strategies.
- Cross-functional leadership: Ability to lead and influence across Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Operations.
- Systems and data knowledge: Familiarity with product information management systems, ERP systems, and customer portals.
- Customer-centric mindset: Focus on delivering value and ease of selling through retail and wholesale channels.
- Analytical thinking: Strong performance-analysis and business-case development skills.
