Transportation Specialist

The Inbound Specialist leads tranportation operations for plants within the Insulation Business (Foam, Foamglas, and Mineral Wool).The role also secures emergency truck shipments to all Owens Corning plants in the US & Canada. This position works directly with our Supply Chain group, plants (Plant leaders, Controllers, Raw Material Coordinators), Raw Material Sourcing Leaders, and 3rd party carriers to assure goal alignment and error free execution of the inbound transportation process. This person will also act as a backup for our Inbound Rail Track & Trace Specialist. The annual transportation budget managed by this role ranges from $35MM to $44MM.
A successful candidate must have exceptional analytical skills and the initiative to take action. Facilitating change and building partnerships with multiple functions is critical to this role. Knowledge of the logistics industry, SAP, and supply chain are required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations Management
- This role covers OC plants for the US and Canada and our transload locations as the central point of contact for emergency inbound truck shipments. Point person to work with carrier specific truck shipments.
- Develops and implements transportation capacity plans to handle year-round shipping volumes and seasonal variations.
- Monthly creation of a transportation cost forecast and reconciliation of the freight cost line of the financial statements; including inputs to modeling tools, in partnership with Sr. Business Finance Analysts and Sr. Sourcing Professionals.
- Manages daily inbound operations to improve carrier service reliability.
- Communicates to all involved on specific trucks needed (plant, buyer, railroad).
- Identifies critical shipments in jeopardy and provides solutions (i.e. expedited vans).
- Negotiation of spot rates with carriers when upset conditions come up within the business.
- Allocates weekly/monthly/yearly capacity with our carrier base on volumes, to minimize cost and improve service reliability.
- Maximizes the usage of SAP/TM to drive standardization and increase operational efficiencies.
Analytics & Metrics Reporting
- Mange daily inbound TM changes in refence to carriers and PO’s.
- Maintain and update TM rates for all carriers that provide service to our plants
- Manage OC carrier portal for inbound balance dues from all OC plants in the US & Canada.
- Review and work with carreirs to resolve rating issues.
- Generate standard reports
- Systems: SAP, TM, Webi, PowerBi, Access, Excel
- Provides monthly metrics reporting on freight spend, plant down-times hours, and carrier service performatnce to internal stakeholders.
- d hoc analysis as required
- Management of year over year freight cost inflation.
- Facilitates operational and carrier performance reviews.
- Drive performance and cost improvements across OC businesses.
- Expedient resolution of issues and service exceptions.
Business, Customer, & Industry Knowledge
- Continuously grows understanding of the Roofing, Asphalt, Insulation, and Composites businesses, in addition to proficient understanding of the specific modes (Rail, dry bulk, liquid tanker) within the North American transportation industry.
- Daily interaction with carriers, plants, and supply chain group.
- Develop strong relationships with carrier partners outside the organization.
- Managing inbound service performance of carriers and freight cost.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
- Undergraduate Degree or equivalent experience required
- 1-3 years demonstrated experience in supply chain, logistics, customer solutions, sourcing, and/or material planning.
Experience
- Managing daily transportation operations.
- Applying analytics to make decisions.

- Negotiation lead of small scale spend.
- Experienced in supporting multiple business units.
